About The Position

Responsible for controlling the entry and exit of vehicles and personnel at the rail terminal, ensuring the secure and efficient flow of traffic. A primary focus of this role is the inspection of intermodal containers and chassis, identifying and documenting any visible damage. Plays a key role in maintaining terminal security by verifying documentation, conducting visual inspections, and consistently enforcing safety and access protocols. This position also serves as a critical communication link between drivers and terminal staff to support smooth, accurate operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Drivers License with a clean motor vehicle record.
  • Prior experience in transportation, logistics, or intermodal.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all types of weather.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic computer skills or experience with handheld scanners

Responsibilities

  • Verify equipment condition, documenting any damage, defects, or safety concerns according to company and customer standards.
  • Record and enter equipment information into gate systems or handheld devices, ensuring accurate and timely data entry.
  • Check for proper documentation, such as container numbers and seal numbers, ensuring all requirements are met before entry or release.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers and yard personnel to resolve discrepancies or clarify instructions.
  • Ensure all equipment entering or exiting the terminal meets DOT and company safety standards.
  • Follow safety protocols and use proper PPE while performing inspections in high traffic areas.
  • Report and escalate unresolved issues or critical findings to supervisors promptly.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and uphold professionalism at the gate.
