About The Position

Nashville International Airport (BNA) is a vital asset for Middle Tennessee, generating significant economic impact and supporting numerous jobs. As part of its commitment to growth and safety, BNA is seeking a Safety Management System (SMS) Program Administrator. This role is crucial for developing, managing, and continuously improving the airport's SMS in accordance with federal regulations. The administrator will be responsible for hazard identification, safety risk management, safety assurance, and safety promotion, ensuring regulatory compliance and fostering a proactive safety culture. The position involves coordinating safety processes across departments, facilitating risk assessments, and tracking safety performance.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of 14 CFR Part 139 and FAA SMS requirements.
  • Ability to facilitate risk assessments and apply risk-based decision making.
  • Strong data analysis and reporting skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and track actions to completion.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across departments
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital safety tracking tools (e.g., dashboards, GIS, Survey123, hazard databases).
  • Ability to prepare professional reports, presentations, and materials for leadership.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secure Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 2-4 years of direct experience developing, implementing or maturing a SMS program within an airport or similarly regulated operational environment
  • 4-7 years of experience in aviation safety, airport operations, or safety program management
  • Valid Driver's License - Class D

  • 4-7 years of experience serving as a primary owner or lead for SMS program development and implementation

Responsibilities

  • Manages and maintains compliance with 14 CFR Part 139, Subpart E Airport Safety Management System, and supports the development and integration of SMS across airport operations.
  • Administers and manages SMS program elements including hazard reporting, safety risk assessments (SRAs), and mitigation tracking.
  • Facilitates and coordinates Safety Risk Assessments, ensuring proper documentation, risk analysis, and follow-up actions.
  • Maintains and continuously improves SMS documentation including the SMS Manual, hazard logs, risk register, and tracking systems.
  • Conducts safety observations, site visits, and field engagement to identify hazards and verify effectiveness of mitigations.
  • Manages SMS data systems, dashboards, and reporting tools to track safety performance and trends.
  • Develops and tracks Safety Performance Indicators (SPIs) and safety objectives.
  • Prepares safety performance reports for leadership.
  • Coordinates and leads SMS Working Group and safety committee activities including agendas, documentation, and action tracking.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between SMS and operational departments to ensure alignment and integration of safety processes.
  • Supports and participates in incident reviews, safety investigations, and root cause analyses.
  • Develops and supports SMS training, safety communications, and safety promotion initiatives.
  • Supports internal audits, program evaluations, and regulatory inspections.
  • Maintains regular and on-time attendance.
  • Follows all safety regulations.
