About The Position

Virginia MetalFab is looking for motivated and energetic individuals to fill our newly opened Safety & Maintenance Coordinator role. As a Safety & Maintenance Coordinator, you will be a part of an AWESOME shop team. Your core mission will be oversight of the integrity of the facility, including building systems and equipment, ensuring they are in compliance with safety regulations and standards. You will also be responsible for implementing and refining maintenance and safety programs, coordinating safety training, and performing preventative maintenance tasks.

  • HS diploma or GED.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self starter with the ability to expand process foundations.
  • Organized with attention to detail.
  • Prior experience in the metal or fabrication industry is highly beneficial.
  • Safety and/or maintenance experience are beneficial for the position.
  • MS Suite, basic computer skills.
  • Forklift certification; trainer certification a plus
  • OSHA, or willingness to obtain
  • Ability to wear various forms of PPE.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to and including 51-100 lb.
  • Ability to push/pull up to and including 41-100 lb.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and identifies equipment or machines in need of repair.
  • Troubleshoots issues to determine necessary repairs.
  • Plans repair work using building’s blueprints or equipment manual as needed.
  • Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician. Examples may include repairing doors and other building fixtures.
  • Performs routine maintenance on building systems.
  • Assists with upkeep of the facilities.
  • Manage and coordinates activities of safety program
  • Monitor equipment to ensure safe and effective operation. Develop and ensure adherence to preventative maintenance schedule
  • Monitor the safety of all departments and ensure adherence to the guidelines
  • Support OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements
  • Develop effective health safety plan designed to meet operational goals to reduce injuries, accidents, and incidents
  • Assist OSHA trainings for new and existing employees
  • Monitor, revise, and implement ongoing updates in safety regulations, laws or reporting requirements
  • Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace
  • Help develop controls for identified hazards, coordinate the implementation of controls from result of hazard analysis
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate workplace accidents and injuries
  • Conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices
  • Ensure that safety supplies are within expiration dates and plentiful within all departments
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local Laws, rules, and regulations
  • Communicate with management and employees in a workplace about processes that don't comply with procedures
  • Respond to emergency situations involving hazardous materials, fire, and smoke incidents, or unknown hazards; prepare reports of findings and submit recommendations
  • Handle accident record analysis and issue reports regularly
  • Analyze accident and incident reports for trends; make recommendations for correcting unsafe conditions and actions
  • Handles DOT Compliance
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Management
