About The Position

The Safety Intern will provide hands-on support to the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This internship is designed for students or recent graduates interested in workplace safety, environmental compliance, and industrial operations. This is a highly interactive, field-based role that involves spending significant time on the production floor conducting inspections, observing work practices, organizing safety documentation, and assisting with day-to-day safety initiatives. The intern will gain practical experience by working directly with employees and supervisors to help maintain a safe and compliant workplace while supporting overall operational safety efforts.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in ccupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field in progress preferred.
Associate’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
High school GED
Previous manufacturing, warehouse, labor, or internship experience preferred but not required.
Must have proficiency in MS office applications including spreadsheet, enterprise resource planning, database, and specialized application software.
Ability and willingness to abide by set policies and/or safety programs established by GHM, our clients, and/or regulatory agencies which govern our performance and behavior in the normal course of our work while on GHM or the client’s property or job site.
Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

Responsibilities

Assist with routine safety inspections and audits throughout the facility.
Observe production floor activities and identify potential safety concerns or housekeeping issues.
Support the maintenance and organization of safety documentation, reports, and training records.
Assist with inventory and organization of PPE and other safety-related equipment.
Participate in facility walkthroughs and special EHS projects as assigned.
Consistently supports departmental quality and safety expectations.
Follow written and verbal instructions from the EHS Manager and other supervisors.
Complete assigned projects and administrative tasks within established timelines.
Assist with safety meetings, toolbox talks, and employee communication efforts.
Performs other duties as assigned by the EHS Manager or his/her designate.
Maintains a clean work area with no clutter.
Practices safety at all times while at work.
Follows safety policies and procedures and speaks up when others are non-compliant.
Wears all safety equipment for area of work.
Keeps an open mind to others continuous improvement suggestions.
Bring continuous improvement suggestions to the appropriate team member.
Demonstrates initiative, positive attitude, and enthusiasm for the job.
Will follow up with supervisor on professional development goals and opportunities.
