About The Position

The Safety Intern will provide hands-on support to the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This internship is designed for students or recent graduates interested in workplace safety, environmental compliance, and industrial operations. This is a highly interactive, field-based role that involves spending significant time on the production floor conducting inspections, observing work practices, organizing safety documentation, and assisting with day-to-day safety initiatives. The intern will gain practical experience by working directly with employees and supervisors to help maintain a safe and compliant workplace while supporting overall operational safety efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in ccupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field in progress preferred.
  • Associate’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • High school GED
  • Previous manufacturing, warehouse, labor, or internship experience preferred but not required.
  • Must have proficiency in MS office applications including spreadsheet, enterprise resource planning, database, and specialized application software.
  • Ability and willingness to abide by set policies and/or safety programs established by GHM, our clients, and/or regulatory agencies which govern our performance and behavior in the normal course of our work while on GHM or the client’s property or job site.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with routine safety inspections and audits throughout the facility.
  • Observe production floor activities and identify potential safety concerns or housekeeping issues.
  • Support the maintenance and organization of safety documentation, reports, and training records.
  • Assist with inventory and organization of PPE and other safety-related equipment.
  • Participate in facility walkthroughs and special EHS projects as assigned.
  • Consistently supports departmental quality and safety expectations.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions from the EHS Manager and other supervisors.
  • Complete assigned projects and administrative tasks within established timelines.
  • Assist with safety meetings, toolbox talks, and employee communication efforts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the EHS Manager or his/her designate.
  • Maintains a clean work area with no clutter.
  • Practices safety at all times while at work.
  • Follows safety policies and procedures and speaks up when others are non-compliant.
  • Wears all safety equipment for area of work.
  • Keeps an open mind to others continuous improvement suggestions.
  • Bring continuous improvement suggestions to the appropriate team member.
  • Demonstrates initiative, positive attitude, and enthusiasm for the job.
  • Will follow up with supervisor on professional development goals and opportunities.
  • Takes an interest and lets it be known that they have a desire to grow with the company.
