About The Position

The Safety Inspector / Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) Level I is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and oversight of safety programs that promote a safe and compliant work environment. This position helps ensure facilities operations, maintenance activities, construction-related work, and support services are performed in accordance with contract requirements, OSHA regulations, EM 385-1-1 standards, and other applicable safety requirements. The SSHO serves as a safety resource for personnel, conducts inspections and audits, investigates incidents, and supports continuous improvement efforts that protect employees, customers, and facility operations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience supporting safety programs within industrial, facilities operations, maintenance, construction, manufacturing, utility, or related environments.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience serving as a Safety Inspector, Site Safety and Health Officer, Safety Coordinator, Safety Manager, or similar role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA regulations, reporting requirements, and workplace safety programs.
  • Current HAZWOPER 40 certification.
  • Current EM 385-1-1 certification or documented experience supporting EM 385-1-1 compliant projects.
  • Current OSHA 10-Hour and OSHA 30-Hour certifications.
  • Experience conducting safety inspections, incident investigations, hazard assessments, and compliance audits.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and maintain effective safety programs and procedures.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or similar professional certification.
  • Experience supporting federal government facilities contracts.
  • Experience supporting large campuses, industrial facilities, military installations, training facilities, or mission-critical environments.
  • Experience developing and managing comprehensive safety management systems.
  • Experience supporting environmental compliance, hazardous materials management, or emergency preparedness programs.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and support site safety and health programs in accordance with contract requirements and applicable regulations.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and assessments of facilities, work sites, equipment, and operations.
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA regulations, EM 385-1-1 requirements, and organizational safety policies.
  • Identify unsafe conditions, behaviors, and work practices and recommend corrective actions.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage events and document findings.
  • Track and support OSHA reporting and recordkeeping requirements.
  • Review work activities, job hazard analyses, activity hazard analyses, and safety plans for compliance with applicable standards.
  • Provide safety guidance and support to supervisors, managers, and employees.
  • Assist with safety training, awareness programs, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Participate in inspections, audits, customer reviews, and regulatory assessments.
  • Prepare reports, trend analyses, corrective action plans, and safety performance metrics.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives designed to enhance workplace safety and reduce risk.
