About The Position

The Safety & Health Technician's responsibilities include but are not limited to, ensuring the safety and security of all teammates, contractors, visitors, etc. and property of Nucor California Steel Industries (NCSI). The Safety & Health Technician is responsible for providing effective professional safety, health, and security support to all teammates to improve and sustain a culture that values Safety above all else.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Possess a valid California Driver’s License
  • Must have experience as a Security Officer and a good performance record or 6 months in a related field
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR Certification
  • California State E.M.T. certification
  • At least six months Security Officer experience 6 months in a related field
  • California State Fire Marshal Fire Extinguisher Servicing License certification
  • California State BSIS Guard Card certification
  • 24-hour HAZWOPER certification
  • Hazardous Materials First Responder (FRO) certificate
  • Firefighter 1 Academy training certificate

Responsibilities

  • Patrols the plant for suspicious or unusual activity; Performs security tours using GuardTek.
  • Maintains site security
  • Performs traffic enforcement and issues citations to violator
  • Escorts unruly visitors or suspended teammates from the plant.
  • Is knowledgeable of all door locations, Mill Planners, Supervisors, and Managers
  • Responds to all medical calls and administers first aid and/or CPR when needed.
  • Responds to all types of incidents and assists completing incident reports.
  • Responds to hazardous materials spills as the HAZMAT FRO first responder.
  • Uses various respirators. Maintains personal grooming as per CAL-OSHA respirator standards.
  • Uses various types of fire suppression, HAZMAT, security, and medical equipment.
  • Maintains appearance and maintenance of all Plant Protection equipment and facilities.
  • Inspects, services, and repairs various fire extinguishers throughout the plant. Where necessary, prepares extinguishers for vendor servicing.
  • Assists with inspection of various fire extinguisher systems.
  • Assists with confined space rescues
  • Leads contractor safety briefings
  • Assist in conducting teammate health monitoring activities, such as hearing and drug testing
  • Maintains routine activity reports, logs, records, etc.
  • Performs other duties as required by department supervision.
  • Teammates will be required to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Leads CPR/First Aid training
  • Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
