About The Position

The Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing environmental, health, and safety programs for a railroad tank car manufacturing facility. This role ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and company regulations while fostering a strong safety culture throughout the facility. The SHE Manager partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Human Resources, and Production leadership to reduce risk, prevent injuries, ensure environmental compliance, and support continuous improvement initiatives in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment. This position will manage the health and safety team and oversee the safety, health and environmental programs at the Alexandria, LA, and Newton Falls, OH facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety industrial Hygiene or related field
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • 3+ years of EHS leadership experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment is strongly preferred with emphasis on welding operations and/or steel fabrication.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations
  • Experience managing regulatory inspections and compliance programs.
  • Experience managing contractors and capital projects strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and industrial safety requirements
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and employee engagement skills
  • Experience developing and delivering training programs.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHS management systems
  • Ability to influence all levels of the organization and drive accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all plant safety programs and initiatives.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture focused on injury prevention and employee engagement.
  • Conduct routine safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments throughout the facility.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable OSHA regulations and company safety standards.
  • Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics and develop corrective action plans as needed.
  • Facilitate safety committee meetings and employee safety engagement activities.
  • Manage environmental compliance programs related to: Air emissions, Stormwater, Wastewater, Hazardous waste, Spill prevention, and Industrial waste disposal.
  • Ensure compliance with EPA, state environmental agencies, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain required environmental permits, reports, and documentation.
  • Coordinate environmental inspections and respond to regulatory inquiries.
  • Manage hazardous material handling and waste disposal programs.
  • Lead investigations related to injuries, near misses, environmental incidents, and property damage events.
  • Identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Track incident trends and recommend continuous improvement measures.
  • Ensure timely reporting and documentation of incidents and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees, supervisors, and contractors.
  • Ensure required regulatory training is completed and documented.
  • Support leadership development related to safety accountability and hazard recognition.
  • Coordinate contractor safety orientation and compliance requirements.
  • Lead facility emergency response planning and preparedness efforts.
  • Coordinate drills and emergency response training.
  • Work with local emergency responders and regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Manage fire prevention and emergency equipment inspection programs.
  • Support continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Maintain records, reports, permits, and compliance documentation.
  • Prepare reports and presentations related to EHS performance and initiatives.
  • Manage departmental budgets and safety-related expenditures as assigned.
