Safety, Health, and Environment Specialist
About The Position
As a Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Specialist at BioNTech’s Gaithersburg facility, you will play a pivotal role in implementing and continuously improving SHE programs that ensure safe and sustainable operations. Working closely with site leadership, the US SHE team, and the Global SHE organization, your contributions will directly support BioNTech’s mission to advance medicine responsibly and effectively. You’ll be part of a dynamic environment where collaboration drives innovation in safety and health practices. In this hands-on role, you’ll lead initiatives such as workplace inspections, risk assessments, training programs, and emergency preparedness activities. Your work will not only impact day-to-day operations but also contribute to U.S.-wide SHE programs and compliance efforts aligned with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety or related scientific disciplines like Environmental Science or Industrial Hygiene
- Relevant experience (3–6 years) in regulated environments such as pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations alongside environmental compliance expertise
- Skilled in conducting audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with SHE management systems is a plus
- Effective communicator with strong organizational skills for handling dynamic priorities

- Experience with ISO 14001/ISO 45001 standards or certifications like ASP or CHMM

Responsibilities
- Execute and enhance SHE programs focusing on occupational safety, chemical management, environmental compliance, and ergonomics
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits, risk assessments; ensure timely corrective actions
- Lead incident investigations including root cause analysis and tracking corrective measures
- Coordinate SHE training sessions while fostering employee engagement in safety initiatives
- Support emergency preparedness activities such as drills and response team functions
- Maintain compliance records including permits, documentation, performance metrics
- Collaborate on U.S.-wide SHE initiatives including contractor safety and management system audits
