About The Position

Provides Munising Hardwood Lumber and Hardwood Veneer with overall coordination of Safety, Health and Environmental initiatives, policies and procedures. Coordinates training, incident investigations, audits, policy development and implementation. Provides overall guidance to ensure compliance with state and federal Safety, Health and Environmental regulations. Works diligently as a member of the Plant Management team. Provides technical Safety and Environmental support to production and personnel at the Munising Plant. Acts as a mentor and promoter of Safety, Health and Environmental concerns. Maintains an active presence on the floor to monitor safety and environmental practices, answer employee questions, understand all equipment and associated safety and environmental features.

  • Maintenance of Safety Committee schedule and reporting.
  • Leading SC walk-through inspections and participation in Safety meetings.
  • Coordination of BasicSafe.
  • Leading plant Safety audits.
  • Management of HAZ waste disposal.
  • Management of EGLE testing.
  • Coordination with outside contractors.
  • Coordination of emergency response drills.
  • Coordination of outside trainings.
  • Advocacy of Building Safety Into Projects (BSIP).
  • Influence in plant Safety culture.
  • Ensuring completion of Risk Mitigation training and documentation (Fire Protection, Housekeeping, Spill Plan, Emergency Action Plan, Plant wide Environmental Policies).
  • Administration and maintenance of documentation within BasicSafe database (SDS, JSA, Annual Noise Survey, Hearing Protection, IH Testing, Respiratory Program, PPE, First Aid, Confined Space, LOTO, Fall Protection, Hazard ID, At-Risk Assessment Program, Pedestrian Safety).
  • Coordination of return to work assignments.
  • Providing New Hire orientations and training.
  • Support of enforcement of company policies.
  • Coordination of incident investigations and follow-up.
  • Performing safety and environmental audits/inspections (on and off site).
  • Ensuring follow through of identified corrective action items.
  • Representing safety and environmental in Capital and Non-Capital projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develops Safety, Health and Environmental programs and objectives and coordinates Safety and Environmental training programs, including mandated MIOSHA training and supports Plant Safety Committee.
  • Monitors Safety, Health and Environmental regulations and provides technical support to Plant Management and personnel to ensure compliance with federal and state safety, health and environmental regulations, PIPP and corporate policy.
  • Oversees communication with team, maintenance of Safety Committee [SC] schedule, and reporting.
  • Leads SC walk-through inspections and participates in Safety meetings.
  • Serves as the primary BasicSafe coordinator.
  • Leads plant Safety audits.
  • Manages HAZ waste disposal and EGLE testing.
  • Coordinates with outside contractors working with the maintenance department.
  • Coordinates emergency response drills.
  • Coordinates outside trainings.
  • Advocates for Building Safety Into Projects (BSIP) and influences plant Safety culture.
  • Ensures completion of Risk Mitigation training and documentation, inclusive but not limited to Fire Protection, Housekeeping, Spill Plan, Emergency Action Plan and Plant wide Environmental Policies.
  • Administers and maintains complete and audited documentation within BasicSafe database of all activities related to Safety Data Sheets, Job Safety Analysis, Annual Noise Survey, Hearing Protection, IH Testing, Respiratory Program, PPE, First Aid, Confined Space, LOTO (including periodic LOTO inspections, training, and annual LOTO audits), Fall Protection, Hazard ID, At-Risk Assessment Program, Pedestrian Safety, and other Safety related programs.
  • Coordinates return to work assignments for workers requiring temporary modified duties.
  • Provides New Hire orientations and training and supports enforcement of company policies.
  • Coordinates incident investigations and follow-up on corrective measures.
  • Performs safety and environmental audits/inspections both on and off site and ensures follow through of identified corrective action items.
  • Represents safety and environmental in all Capital and Non-Capital projects.
