About The Position

This position will operate as a corporate employee with direct supervision from the President. The Safety & Environmental Director will work with operation managers and supervisors of each division in the implementation of our Corporate Safety Program and enforce all safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and 10 years of safety experience.
  • OR P.E. registration, IOSH-RSP, CSP, CIH, CHP or CRSP certification and five years of safety experience.
  • Work with operation manager and supervisor of each division in implementation of our Corporate Safety Program.
  • Enforce all safety policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA requirements and statutory laws regarding industrial safety on the shop floor, in the office, and in safety programs.
  • Authorize the purchase of manufacturing equipment and machinery for compliance with safety regulations.
  • Participate in plant expansions and/or acquisitions from a safety perspective.
  • Implement a safety audit & observation program to discover and correct unsafe conditions or practices.
  • Investigate all accidents and near misses, and document/report serious accidents and fatalities to the president.
  • Effectively manage worker compensation claims, including filing forms, tracking claims, and ensuring timely closure.
  • Analyze accident data to identify trends and patterns, and set priorities for accident reduction programs.
  • Maintain a record system for all incidents, concerns, and suggestions.
  • Maintain and direct a safety committee to assist in reducing workplace hazards and increasing employee safety awareness.
  • Implement an effective safety incentive program to ensure participation and enthusiasm in safety.
  • Conduct safety orientation for all new employees regarding safety policies and programs.
  • Ensure training of all employees in safety programs and related subjects according to OSHA regulations and company recommendations.
  • Maintain a balanced budget for all safety equipment and supplies, and perform purchasing of health and safety related items.
  • Organize and communicate with management monthly and annually on accidents and overall safety.
  • Engage in continuing education in the safety field by attending seminars and joining committees/organizations.
  • Maintain outside professional contacts to exchange and update safety information.
  • Act in an advisory capacity on all matters related to safety for management guidance.
  • Manage Product Safety Policy and coordinate efforts with estimating, engineering, manufacturing, and sales for safe product design and manufacturing.
  • Conduct safety and environmental analysis on all newly designed equipment via committee.
  • Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to the design and manufacture of products.
  • Maintain safety equipment sheets and safety inspection sheets for all manufactured equipment.
  • Label all manufactured equipment in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Safety inspect all manufactured equipment and approve for shipment.
  • Address all equipment safety issues raised by employees or customers.
  • Manage all liability claims from product or manufactured equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all national and state environmental regulations.
  • Complete all reporting and recordkeeping requirements for environmental compliance.
  • Manage all environmental issues regarding acid operations (electro-polish and pickling).
  • Research ways to improve air quality, wastewater discharge, and storm water discharge.
  • Monitor and audit environmental processes and implement changes for better efficiencies.
  • Continually research methods of waste minimization.
  • Manage continual improvements to make the company environmentally friendly.
  • Engage in continual education to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
