About The Position

The Safety Coordinator has full responsibility for the company safety program; ensures compliance with OSHA, and can assist with litigation and loss prevention generally, and within, the insurance program. This role involves maintaining currency of safety programs by monitoring legislative actions, evaluating new requirements, and developing new programs. The coordinator will audit plant safety programs for compliance and training effectiveness, monitor accident reports for trend identification, and investigate accidents/incidents. They will also train personnel in required OSHA programs, initiate changes in plant processes for a safe work environment, and respond to communications at all times, including nights and weekends. All other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays as business needs arise.
  • Highly organized; superior time management skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and oral.
  • Self-motivated; self starter.
  • Work well with all levels of the corporation.
  • Effective trainer.
  • Ability to evaluate new regulations and change programs to ensure continued compliance.
  • Ability to travel 5% of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • One or two years of progressive safety experience.
  • Professional experience or certification as a trainer preferred.
  • Good computer skills in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Completion of OSHA 511 or OSHA 30 within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain currency of the safety programs by monitoring legislative actions, evaluating new requirements and developing new programs.
  • Audit plant safety programs for compliance and training effectiveness.
  • Report all inspections/inquiries to GM/RSM.
  • Monitor accident reports and analysis for identification of trends.
  • Investigate accidents/incidents.
  • Maintain accident files.
  • Train plant and transportation personnel in required OSHA programs (Orientation, Monthly OSHA, etc.).
  • Initiate change in plant processes and procedures to implement a safe work environment.
  • Respond to communications such as calls, emails and text messages at all times including nights and weekends.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.
