About The Position

Ensure compliance with applicable codes and safety standards for the organization and other assigned entities. Schedules and provides field support with periodic tests and inspections required by the Environment of Care Program and Facilities Department to include collection of documentation for The Joint Commission and all regulatory requirements. Provides support to manage risks, coordinate risk reduction activities in the physical environment, collect deficiency information and disseminate summaries of actions and results.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent Required
  • 3 years experience in occupational safety and environmental health or facilities management, preferably in a healthcare setting with an emphasis on facility inspections. Required
  • Knowledgeable in applicable safety codes and regulations including Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Joint Commission, state and local fire and building codes.
  • Knowledge and use of personal computers
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and proficient in documentation review.
  • Ability to track, interpret and present data in a readily understood manner.
  • Knowledge of building codes and standards including NFPA, Uniform Building Code and OSHA standards.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission standards.
  • Demonstrated solid understanding of the Incident Command System, emergency planning, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery in regards to emergency preparedness.
  • Certified Healthcare Safety Professional within 1 Year Required
  • NFPA 99 Healthcare Facility Code Training within 1 Year Required
  • NFPA 101 Life Safety Code Training within 1 Year Required
  • TJC PE Boot Camp completed within 180 Days Required
  • Must be qualified to sign Hazardous Materials Manifests or eligible with completion within 90 Days Required
  • MVR Required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Risk Management, Safety Management, Business Administration or related field Preferred
  • experience in Safety and regulatory compliance, survey in a health care setting or related field Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and provides field support for tests and inspections of Children’s Nebraska and assigned entities building systems and components that support compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Schedules all regulatory testing as directed by regulations and codes to ensure testing is completed within the required timeline(s).
  • Conducts and documents EOC Rounding and surveys of facilities to identify existing or potential environmental, safety, fire, or health hazards.
  • Recommends corrective or preventative measures to the Manager Emergency Preparedness and Safety, and implements, follow-ups on recommendations as directed.
  • Ensures all EOC testing and documentation to demonstrate compliance with The Joint Commission standards is in a state of continual readiness.
  • Monitors Safety compliance with regulatory agency requirements including OSHA, Joint Commission, EPA, State and Local Agencies.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge in all applicable safety codes and regulations including Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), The Joint Commission,(TJC), National Fire Protection Association, (NFPA) in addition to federal, state and local fire and building codes.
  • Reports inefficiencies in the safety processes and non-compliance with applicable standards and code to the Manager Emergency Preparedness and Safety, Director of Safety and Security, as well as appropriate EOC Sub-committees.
  • Provides technical support to appropriate committees during the development of tests and inspections related to specific functions or safety management.
  • Supports the Facilities Divison during Joint Commission, OSHA and other governmental agency surveys.
  • Conducts the fire drills.
  • Performs data entry, record searches, creates reports and documents activity related to the tests, inspection and maintenance performed
  • Reviews new construction and renovation projects to ensure compliance with all safety related codes and regulations in coordination with the Manager of Emergency Preparedness and Safety, Project Coordinators and Manager of Facilities.
  • Supports the pre-construction planning process by participating in the Advance Notice Disruption providing feedback and suggestions on the projects.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled project status meetings and conducts on-going surveillance rounds as required to ensure projects are in compliance with applicable regulations
  • Ensures contractors that are performing safety maintenance or construction at Children’s and other assigned facilities are following the appropriate standards by completing appropriate rounds on projects.
  • Participates in the Employee Safety committee as a representative of the Facility Division and chairs the Life Safety Subcommittee.
  • Make recommendations to ensure The Joint Commission compliance.
  • Research, recommend, oversight and guidance to the functional components of the hospital and building safety, environment of care and regulatory compliance programs to the Manager Emergency Preparedness and Safety
  • Acts as a representative of the Safety Office to individual departments to develop and maintain specific departmental emergency plans.
  • Provides training and feedback to employees on safety policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Assists in the development and coordination of a corporate-wide education programs for Children’s Hospital & Medical Center and other assigned facilities on safety policies and procedures to ensure that employees are aware of, and can respond appropriately, to safety hazards and emergencies related to their job
