About The Position

Hughes General Contractors is actively seeking a Construction Safety Coordinator to join our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) efforts across all construction operations. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety programs that ensure compliance with federal and state OSHA, EPA, and MSHA regulations. The Construction Safety Coordinator will provide strategic leadership, conduct risk analyses, partner with project teams, and help shape a Safety Strong culture across our organization. This is a hands-on, highly visible role that works closely with project managers, subcontractors, clients, and internal leadership. This role is not about compliance; it is about actively shaping safe behaviors, empowering employees, and committing to do work the right way!

Requirements

  • At least Three (3) years of safety professional experience in a similar field.
  • Valid UT Driver's license and clean driving record - required.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) - required.
  • Effective communication skills both oral and written, and quick response time to inquiries.
  • Must be able to pass controlled substance tests prior to, and at all times, during employment.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 30, MSHA, First Aid, CPR, and AED Certified - strongly preferred.
  • Experience with concrete placement safety, trenching/excavation, and heavy equipment operations - preferred.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and clearly articulate a safety plan, objectives, strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify hazards, evaluate risks, and recommend corrective actions to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, analyzing root causes and implementing preventative measures to minimize future occurrences.
  • Analyze incident trends and inspection data to improve safety performance.
  • Maintain expertise in federal, state, and industry safety regulations; interface with OSHA, MSHA, EPA, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Conduct pre-project safety reviews and visit active job sites to assess conditions and compliance.
  • Assist in compiling and analyzing safety data to identify risk trends and drive preventive action planning.
  • Assist the Training department in safety related training.
  • Participate in monthly corporate Safety meetings.
  • All other duties assigned.
