Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in safety, industrial hygiene or related discipline.
  • 3-5 years of safety or related experience required; utility experience desired. (For Safety Consultant level)
  • 7-10 years of safety or related experience required; utility experience desired. (For Senior Safety Consultant level)
  • The Associate level is an entry level position for which safety or utility experience in lieu of a degree may be considered. In order to be hired into or progress to the Consultant/Sr Consultant levels in the job family, a candidate must have a bachelor's degree.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field audits and observations to gather information while consulting and advising the department on health and safety issues.
  • Conduct investigations of accidents, injuries, tools, equipment, work methods or other issues.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of procedures, policies, and programs relating to safety.
  • Act as a professional resource for all levels of employees while providing an expert perspective on safety.
  • Audit safety performance through observation and inquiry. Identify improvement opportunities and inform facility management of issues and solutions.
  • Deliver safety training programs and materials.
  • Conduct industrial hygiene exposure monitoring for various physical, biological and chemical agents to determine employee exposures.
  • Pursue personal development of technical expertise in a broad range of subject matter relative to safety.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with facility employees and department leaders.
  • Serve on local safety committees while offering expert perspective on safety issues.
  • Support diversity by actively seeking out and encouraging diversity in perspective and by establishing an environment of inclusion.
