About The Position

Develops and coordinates safety programs necessary to comply with applicable local, state, and federal regulations and to ensure a safe working environment for all MetroLink Tulsa employees. Also responsible for developing, conducting, and coordinating necessary safety training programs for the operations, maintenance, and administration employees. Serves as a specialist in the development, implementation, and administration of internal facility security functions including maintaining customer security requirements. Analyzes security documents and manuals as the company’s designated security officer and maintains appropriate levels of control. Performs periodic security inspections. Maintains knowledge of security work practices. Managerial duties include serving as a first line supervisor for the organization. This includes but is not limited to: assigning work, setting priorities, and reviewing and evaluating work and performance of subordinates; approving leave; coaching and developing employees; recommending corrective or disciplinary actions; assisting in budget planning and projecting short-term needs; managing projects within assigned resources; resolving routine problems that typically impact the objectives of the organizational unit; and when required, coordinating with customers outside the immediate organization.

Requirements

  • Must have a CLEET certification.
  • Requires the ability to handle numerous activities at one time.
  • Ability to understand and interpret local, state, and federal regulations is essential.
  • Must have the ability to interact in a positive manner with all MTTA personnel and the public.
  • Must be able to pass a DOT physical examination and perform various physical activities that include walking, standing, kneeling and bending with no impairment in movement of head and eyes.
  • Requires ability to withstand exposure to negative surroundings such as uncomfortable weather conditions, dust, and engine fumes.
  • May be required to lift or push 50 pounds.
  • Requires ability to perform hand-over-hand method of steering vehicles and be able to grip a steering wheel.
  • Requires ability to hear telephone and directions given; visually perform essential functions for satisfactory job performance including the operation of Tulsa Transit vehicles.
  • Ability to view visual display terminal.
  • Must be safety conscious and avoid accidents if possible.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the confidentiality of all company and personnel-related information.
  • Assists Safety Director with the management of safety staff including but not limited to hiring, performance reviews, discipline, and termination.
  • Maintain compliance with FTA, EPA, OSHA, and DOL laws and regulations.
  • Review Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) and associated materials periodically to ensure compliance.
  • Investigate offsite and onsite accidents involving MetroLink Tulsa personnel and/or damage to equipment. Investigate incidents as necessary.
  • Report damage information to claims adjuster for subrogation purposes, when necessary.
  • Track and process all accidents and determine accident preventability. Ensure all documentation is received. If the accident was preventable, determine necessary training or retraining and provide the Training department with recommendations.
  • Serve as chairperson of the Safety Committee and conduct monthly safety meetings. Plan and coordinate Safety Month activities in June and order appropriate awards/plaques.
  • Conduct fire and severe weather drills on an annual basis.
  • Prepare Safety communication materials for employees (including Safety Bulletin Boards, Newsletter, Meetings, etc.).
  • Prepare, maintain, update, and submit reports and logs.
  • Take employee to Concentra for on-the-job injury care if he/she cannot drive. If needed
  • In cooperation with department managers, implements programs to improve overall safety.
  • Create and distribute security manuals, documents, and records. Maintain facility security requirements and implement procedures for safeguarding proprietary and customer furnished data.
  • Prepare personnel actions and forms to request security clearance/special access. Brief incoming staff on security processes and debrief outgoing staff.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the security program for all MetroLink Tulsa personnel and facilities.
  • Assure compliance with security regulations in all MetroLink Tulsa departments.
  • Provide and coordinate security needs to all employees in the areas where security is concerned.
  • Coordinate investigation of security incidents (theft, vandalism, etc.) involving MetroLink Tulsa personnel and/or equipment.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies regarding safety and security incidents (theft, vandalism, accidents, etc.) involving MetroLink Tulsa personnel and/or equipment.
  • Operate safely, and maintain, company vehicle.
  • Perform daily walk-through inspections at all MTTA properties.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all employee incidents, accidents, video inspections, and any resulting employee disciplinary actions.
  • Develop and implement proactive strategies, practices, and resource allocation methodologies to ensure security of MTTA customers, its workforce, and the general public as they interact with the transit system.
  • Responding to and resolving security related incidents, emergency situations, and difficult customer service issues by creating calm, establishing command presence, and using critical thinking and tactical communication.
  • Creating and reinforcing a work environment that maintains open, respectful communication, values employees, and encourages cooperative problem solving.
  • Must report to work on a regular and timely basis.
  • Perform other incidental duties as may be assigned.
