About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Safety and Security, the Safety and Security Manager supports the day-to-day implementation, coordination, and continuous improvement of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada (BGCSNV) safety and security program. The position helps protect members, employees, volunteers, visitors, information, and organizational property by coordinating field operations, assessing risk, responding to incidents, assisting with investigations, delivering staff training, supporting emergency preparedness, and monitoring compliance with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) standards and applicable federal, state, and local requirements. This is an organization-wide, field-focused position requiring regular travel among BGCSNV locations and sound judgment during routine and emergency conditions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in safety, security, emergency management, law enforcement, investigations, youth services, or a closely related field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess risk, respond calmly to emergencies, prepare clear written reports, protect confidential information, and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Knowledge of and experience in workplace and public-safety practices, incident response, emergency procedures, physical security principles, administrative investigations, reviewing video evidence, interviewing witnesses, preparing reports, OSHA standards, Nevada laws relevant to safety, mandatory reporting, and basic investigative methods.
  • Experience with access-control systems, video surveillance, alarms, radios, fleet-safety technology, or other physical security systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with youth, families, employees, volunteers, community members, and public-safety partners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to organize competing priorities, manage interruptions, meet deadlines, and complete accurate work with limited supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or related productivity software and the ability to learn incident-reporting, access-control, video-surveillance, emergency-communication, and other safety technologies.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet BGCSNV driving requirements for organization-wide travel.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required background screening and youth-protection requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, emergency management, criminal justice, security administration, public administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior lead, supervisory, or program-coordination experience preferred.
  • Experience in a youth-serving, educational, nonprofit, healthcare, behavioral-health, social-service, or similarly high-accountability environment.
  • Current instructor certification in CPI or a comparable crisis-prevention program and current instructor certification in first aid/CPR/AED, or the ability to obtain designated certifications within an established timeframe.
  • Use of personal vehicle may be necessary with reimbursement for mileage at standard IRS rates.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Director of Safety and Security in implementing departmental goals, work plans, policies, procedures, and performance standards.
  • Coordinates day-to-day safety and security activities across BGCSNV locations and provides field guidance, coaching, and operational support to assigned department personnel and Club leadership.
  • Promotes a professional, service-oriented, and inclusive safety culture; models sound judgment, accountability, confidentiality, and respectful interactions with youth, families, employees, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Coordinates safety and security procedures with Club Operations, Human Resources, Facilities, Information Technology, and other departments as needed while maintaining clear lines of authority and communication.
  • Provides the Director with timely updates regarding significant incidents, emerging risks, recurring deficiencies, corrective actions, and resource needs.
  • Conducts routine and unannounced site visits, safety inspections, security assessments, and observations of staff practices to identify hazards, vulnerabilities, policy violations, and opportunities for improvement. Observations will include live and recorded video surveillance to identify strengths and vulnerabilities at organization sites.
  • Supports the administration and operational effectiveness of physical security systems, including access control, employee identification and badging, intrusion alarms, video surveillance, emergency communications, and related security technology.
  • Assesses threats and risks involving members, employees, visitors, facilities, special events, and organizational activities; recommends proportionate mitigation measures to the Director of Safety and Security.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services, school district personnel, security vendors, and other community partners.
  • Reviews incident reports for completeness, accuracy, policy compliance, required notifications, and the need for additional follow-up or investigation.
  • Responds to significant incidents, calls for safety and security assistance, disturbances, suspicious activities, and assists with scene coordination, immediate protective actions, evidence preservation, witness identification, organizational notifications, and transition to responding public-safety agencies when applicable.
  • Conducts or assists with impartial administrative or youth investigations as assigned, including planning investigative steps, reviewing records and surveillance, interviewing involved persons and witnesses, documenting evidence, and preparing clear investigative reports and findings.
  • Safeguards confidential, sensitive, and personally identifiable information and maintains orderly investigative records in accordance with policy and applicable legal requirements.
  • Recognizes circumstances requiring mandated reports or external notification and promptly escalates them to the Director and other designated organizational leaders; assists in ensuring required reports are completed within established timeframes.
  • Identifies incident patterns, causal factors, supervision concerns, and procedural deficiencies; develops practical recommendations for risk reduction, corrective action, training, or policy improvement.
  • Participates in after-action reviews following critical incidents, emergencies, drills, and significant safety or security events and tracks assigned improvement actions through completion.
  • Assesses safety and security training needs and develops, coordinates, and delivers onboarding, recurring, remedial, and site-specific instruction for employees and volunteers.
  • Provides training and coaching on topics that may include youth protection, active supervision, incident reporting, emergency procedures, de-escalation and crisis response, workplace violence prevention, access control, visitor management, physical security practices, and use of departmental safety systems.
  • Facilitates Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), first aid/CPR/AED, or other specialized courses when appropriately certified and assigned.
  • Uses exercises, drills, scenario-based learning, and coaching to evaluate whether employees understand and can consistently apply required safety and security procedures.
  • Conducts organizational driver testing for youth-transport positions during onboarding process, recertification, and/or upon request.
  • Maintains accurate training schedules, attendance records, certifications, and completion data and promptly reports compliance gaps to the Director and responsible leadership.
  • Supports implementation and maintenance of the BGCSNV Emergency Operations Plan and site-specific emergency procedures for natural hazards, fires, medical emergencies, missing or eloped youth, threats, violence, and other foreseeable emergencies.
  • Plans, coordinates, observes, and evaluates emergency drills; documents results and works with site leadership to correct identified deficiencies.
  • Assists with emergency response and incident command functions as assigned, including communication, accountability, site security, evacuation, reunification, shelter-in-place, lockdown, and coordination with first responders.
  • Inspects emergency and response equipment within the Department's scope and ensures deficiencies involving first-aid supplies, AEDs, radios, emergency response gear, fire-safety equipment, or related resources are documented and referred for correction.
  • Provides safety and security planning and on-site support for organizational programs, field trips, community activities, and special events as assigned.
  • Maintains readiness to respond to urgent safety or security matters and may be required to work irregular or extended hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays.
  • Assists with BGCSNV special events and other organization-wide initiatives as assigned.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the purpose and responsibilities of the position.
