About The Position

The Mission of ELMHS is to provide mental health evaluation, treatment, habilitation and consultation for adults. Programs include inpatient interventions, jail based evaluations, supervised group home and residential programs, forensic evaluation, care, custody, and aftercare; intermediate and long term psychiatric are in coordination with the total system of care in Louisiana. ELMHS is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented, and positive individual to join our team as a SAFETY AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS COORDINATOR. The selected candidate will plan, coordinate, and oversee agency safety and emergency preparedness programs by ensuring regulatory compliance, conducting inspections and training, managing safety documentation and reporting, and collaborating with local, state, and federal partners to reduce risk and improve emergency response.

Requirements

  • Four years of experience in safety inspection or training, emergency preparedness, safety education or promotion, or administrative services; OR Six years of full-time work experience plus one year of experience in safety inspection or training, emergency preparedness, safety education or promotion, or administrative services; OR A bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience in safety inspection or training, emergency preparedness, safety education or promotion, or administrative services; OR An advanced degree.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and coordinate the activities and the development, planning, and implementation of a safety program for an agency that is designed to reduce accidents, decrease agency costs, and, property and equipment.
  • Conduct monthly review of department level Hazardous Communication monitoring and compliance and ensures SDS are current and placed in appropriate locations within the departments.
  • Maintains records of all transactions.
  • Maintain existing processes to track and report safety initiated or safety led projects, services, and resource requisition, use and distribution
  • Inspect facility prior to any emergency event to identify potential safety issues, as well as perform inspections post emergency, documenting and communicating safety issues and concerns, and findings with solutions for review. Emergency events can include, but are not limited to severe weather, shelter in place, structural damage, evacuations, etc.
  • Compiles information necessary to create emergency response After Action Reports (AAR) and distributes to Administration for recordkeeping and audit requirements
  • Plan, organize and coordinate the activities of the agency safety and emergency preparedness program in cooperation with city, state and federal agencies - including drills, exercises and training to safeguard against acts of terrorism
