About The Position

This is a hybrid position that allows for one day of remote work per week based on business needs. The Emergency Management Coordinator 1 position serves a vital role in supporting continuity of operations planning (COOP), strengthening community preparedness through outreach and education, and advancing inclusive emergency management practices. The Pierce County Department of Emergency Management is committed to communication, coordination, and collaboration, working closely with stakeholders and communities to prepare for, respond to, mitigate against, and recover from disasters. The department is accredited through the Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP) and is a leader in emergency management. The team is committed to the full cycle of emergency management: planning, preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and One-year professional experience in Emergency Management or related activities is required.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Applicant will need to authorize and complete a background check.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Develop planning strategies, plans, and procedures with local governments, state and federal agencies, and the private sector.
  • Implement such plans and programs as required.
  • Research, develop, and maintain aspects of the Pierce County Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan as assigned.
  • Review, analyze, and develop reports on plans, programs, mitigation activities, and other related documents.
  • Act as a Duty Officer to respond to the Department of Emergency Management responsibilities during regular and non-business hours.
