About The Position

The Safety Aide Supervisor, working under the authority of the Executive Director of Safety, is responsible for overseeing the activities of school site safety aides. These aides provide safety assistance for faculty, staff, students, and visitors within an assigned area of the District. The supervisor reviews staffing levels, delegates authority, assigns responsibilities, investigates incidents, and compiles data for reporting. They also provide escort services, basic public assistance, and perform routine safety aide activities and public safety patrol duties when required. The role requires alertness to emergencies and the ability to provide first-line response, emergency management, and referral.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have a valid driver's license.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that is above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
  • Internal Applicants: Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Lead Safety Aide within Santa Fe Public Schools.
  • External Applicants: Minimum of five (5) years of supervisor experience as a personal/property security professional.
  • Ability to successfully conduct safety patrols without direct supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to complete routine paperwork.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Skill in performing building safety checks and lock procedures.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety codes, regulations, and procedures.
  • Skill in providing protective services to individuals on campus.
  • Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.
  • Regularly required to stand; move throughout a room and/or facility.
  • Communicate verbally and electronically.
  • Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb, and balance, and drive.
  • May have occasion to perform light lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and private automobile.
  • Walking and working in outdoor climates unique to Northern New Mexico for several hours at a time, reading, speaking to individuals, and large audiences.
  • Sitting for extended periods, typing, and driving.
  • Demonstrates reliability as evidenced by attendance records and punctuality.
  • Properly notifies supervisor and/or designee of absences or tardiness.
  • Begins and completes work within the allotted time.
  • Consistently appears in attire appropriate to the work environment.
  • Demonstrates skill in the use of equipment including its capabilities, limitations, and appropriate/ special application.
  • Protects the district’s resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment.
  • Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to aid in the prevention of muscle strain/injury.

  • ICS 100-400 Series, ICS 362A, NIMS 700 & 800 Series (training to obtain licensure will be provided upon hire)

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the supervision of Safety Aides.
  • Responsible for the proper execution of assigned duties.
  • Trains new Safety Aides.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the District’s policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, recommending hires, training, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding performance, and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Maintains a professional District and community reputation.
  • Maintains regular, consistent attendance record.
  • Knowledgeable of and adheres to all rules and regulations, policies, and orders.
  • Provides safety for the District, staff, students, and visitors.
  • Interacts with staff, students, and visitors in a professional manner.
  • Interacts with local law enforcement agencies as required.
  • Attends and satisfactorily completes all required training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
