About The Position

Safety Management Group is seeking a Safety Advisor – Power & Utilities for the South Texas region. This role involves providing safety oversight as a contractor representative for line crews on a transmission project, likely including transmission and distribution work. The ideal candidate will reinforce safe work practices, conduct field observations, identify hazards, provide corrective-action coaching, and document findings. This position requires implementing the Contractor Safety Management Program, completing quality safety observations with a focus on leading indicators, and establishing strong relationships with stakeholders. The Safety Advisor will provide safety leadership for Energy Delivery projects, verify compliance with safety policies and procedures, ensure safety requirements are clear to contractors, represent the Utility client in meetings, and prepare clear and concise reports. A key aspect of this role is reinforcing the safety culture with field crews and adhering to internal standards, policies, and procedures. Travelers will be accepted for this project, and per diem is available.

Requirements

  • A college degree in a safety-related field is preferred.
  • Five plus years of safety management experience - utility/construction background.
  • Be able to work outdoors in all reasonable conditions.
  • Proficient in effective email correspondence, electronic document development, creating safety-related communications (bulletins, alerts, etc.), and navigating new computer software and applications.
  • The ability to multitask and manage multiple competing priorities is critical to success.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team setting.
  • Ability to lead meetings and initiatives to drive results.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety rules and regulations at all levels of government, including federal, state, and local.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience preferred in the following area: Transmission & Distribution, Vegetation Management, Underground Distribution & Network.
  • Certifications including ASP, CSP, CHST, CUSP, STSC, CTSP.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safety oversight as a contractor rep of line crews on a transmission project.
  • Work will likely include transmission and distribution.
  • Reinforce safe work practices for transmission line and pole replacement activities.
  • Conduct field observations, hazard identification, and corrective-action coaching.
  • Document findings, near misses, and corrective actions.
  • Contractor Safety Management Program Implementation.
  • Complete quality safety observations, including documentation of findings focusing on leading indicators.
  • Establish, build, and maintain effective relationships with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Provide safety leadership for Energy Delivery projects.
  • Verify compliance with safety policies and procedures as required by law and the owner.
  • Work to ensure safety requirements are clear to contractors.
  • Represent the Utility client in meetings.
  • Prepare reports clearly and concisely.
  • Reinforces safety culture with field crews.
  • Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
