About The Position

Metrolinx’s GO Expansion program is delivering more GO service across the network, including the capacity to deliver two-way service every 15 minutes or better on core routes. Work is already underway on new track, station renovations and infrastructure upgrades on parts of the Lakeshore, Stouffville, Kitchener and Barrie lines. The investment will generate thousands of new jobs and economic opportunities across the region. The ONxpress Civil Joint Venture is comprised of Aecon Infrastructure Management Inc. and FCC Canada Ltd. This multidisciplinary team leads the delivery of civil and track works, leveraging global expertise to introduce innovative solutions across the GO Transit network. This role is a newly created position. Requirements

  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience working in a heavy civil construction Health and Safety position.
  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
  • A valid G-class driver's license is a must.
  • Strong knowledge of the Health and Safety Act, and legislation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information to project management teams, subcontractors, and clients as required
  • Ability to respond to unanticipated events.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Availability to work night shift hours which can range from 10:30 PM - 6:30 AM

Nice To Haves

  • Completed or working towards a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification is considered an asset.
  • CROR certification is preferred.
  • PTS certificatoin is preferred.
  • Experience working on rail construction projects is an asset. Familiar with rail construction terminology

Responsibilities

  • Conducting comprehensive hazard assessments of construction sites and implementing measures to mitigate health, safety and security risks to ensure the safety of all workers and visitors.
  • Ensuring that all construction activities comply with relevant health and safety regulations, codes, and standards set forth by local authorities and regulatory bodies.
  • Providing training sessions and educational materials to construction workers and site managers on safety protocols, procedures, and best practices to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses on construction sites, determining root causes, and implementing corrective actions to prevent similar occurrences in the future. They also ensure that all incidents are accurately documented and reported as per regulatory requirements.
  • Conducting regular inspections and audits of construction sites to assess compliance with safety standards, identify potential hazards, and recommend corrective actions to improve safety performance.
  • Collaborating with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to develop comprehensive site-specific health and safety plans for construction projects. They support the implementation of these plans, monitor progress, and adjust as necessary to ensure ongoing safety throughout the project lifecycle.
