About The Position

The SAFE@Home Safety Services are designed to work with families who have come to the attention of the Department of Children and Family Services where the family is assessed to have impending danger. SAFE@Home Safety Services are meant to provide reasonable efforts to preserve families to enable children to remain safely at home, avoid separation and placement of the children, and facilitate timely reunification. The Safety Manager will take the lead in day-to-day delivery of in-home safety services. They will primarily deliver in-home safety services in the context of ongoing safety management in collaboration with the family’s Intact Family Services Worker (Child Welfare Specialist) or Permanency Worker.

Requirements

  • Bilingual English/Spanish highly required.
  • Previous experience with or knowledge of case management, the IDCFS system especially as it related to child abuse, childhood trauma and/or neglect issues is helpful.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work evening and/or weekend hours if needed to carry out all job responsibilities.
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to clients’ and coworkers’ cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
  • Ability to understand, practice, and support the agency values of technical competence, outstanding customer service, superior team player, and commitment to quality improvement.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Work effectively with diverse workforce and client groups.
  • Possess a valid Illinois drivers license, current automobile insurance providing minimum coverage, and own transportation that meets standards for safety and drivability.

Responsibilities

  • Supports OMNI‘s mission, vision and values by exhibiting excellence and competence, collaboration, innovation, respect personalization, accountability and ownership.
  • Maintain caseload of up to 8-10 cases, using a trauma informed universal approach.
  • Provide necessary trauma informed case management services and arrange for ancillary services in accordance with the family’s Impending Danger Plan and the expectations of the IDCFS Safe Families contract.
  • Perform home visits and provide most services to assigned cases in the client’s home.
  • Safety Manager prepares safety service providers and ensures understanding and ability to manage the impending danger plan as written.
  • Prepare any required court reports, attend required court hearings, and carry out orders of the court.
  • Complete required IDCFS and agency paperwork in a timely and professional manner.
  • Participate in all Safety Management Meetings with the Safe@Home Intact Family Services Case Manager and services providers as indicated.
  • Collaborate with the development of the Impending Danger Plan, subsequent reviews, and revisions.
  • A minimum of once weekly in-home visits up to daily in-home visits dependent on client assessment.
  • Oversee and manage the services provided in an in-home safety plan and directly provide in-home safety services to families.
  • Work collaboratively with the IFS Case Manager to connect families to needed services and interventions.
  • Work collaboratively with the service providers to connect families to needed services and interventions.
  • Assess the suitability and sustainability of services.
  • Maintain active contact with collateral providers involved with assigned cases.
  • Successfully complete required IDCFS trainings and attend additional workshops or trainings on pertinent topics to maintain job-related competencies.
  • Attend and participate in regular Team Meetings.
  • Be available to clients for crisis intervention on a rotating basis as assigned.
  • Meet regularly with supervisor to consult and review cases and carry out work-related instructions about clients.
  • Attend training regarding childhood trauma, symptoms and a universal approach to use when working in an organization that delivers services to trauma exposed children and families.
  • Perform other duties which may be assigned to support the agency or program mission.
