About The Position

This position is responsible for daily Safe Haven operations including maintaining timely and accurate logs; meal preparation and delivery; crisis intervention; conducting Safe Haven activities; ensuring safety and integrity of Safe Haven space.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Food Handling and Sanitation Certification within six months of employment.
  • 2-3 years residential program experience.
  • 2-3 years working with people with mental illness, substance abuse, and/or both.
  • Knowledge of issues surrounding homelessness, mental illness, and chemical dependency and MISA issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Conflict management and crisis intervention skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with case management, staff, psychiatrist, and other providers around mental health and medical issues.
  • Demonstrate clear and professional boundaries.
  • Act in a professional manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR preferred.
  • Valid Illinois driver's license, proof of insurance, and own vehicle preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain timely and accurate logs.
  • Prepare and deliver meals.
  • Provide crisis intervention.
  • Conduct Safe Haven activities.
  • Ensure the safety and integrity of the Safe Haven space.
  • Coordinate the scheduling and training of Safe Haven staff.
  • Communicate concerns and observations to internal and external service providers.
  • Communicate effectively with other Safe Haven staff.
  • Ensure program safety, security, cleanliness, and integrity of the building during designated hours.
  • Prepare and serve meals.
  • Ensure the proper ordering, stocking, and storage of goods.
  • Coordinate distribution and storage of donated foods, including pick-ups, produce, and from the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
  • Solicit food donations and foster positive relationships with food donors.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen and food service area.
  • Maintain organized pantries, refrigerators, and freezers.
