S4 Pilot Instructor Manager
About The Position
Joby Aviation is seeking a Manager, S4 Pilot Instructors to join our Flight Standards and Training team on-site in Marina, California. In this role, you will build and lead a versatile cadre of ground, simulator, and flight instructors responsible for delivering Joby’s standardized pilot training curriculum. As a key member of our flight operations, you will establish rigorous instructional standards and lead training initiatives for the Joby S4- our all-electric five-seat eVTOL aircraft designed for commercial air taxi service. We are looking for an experienced, FAA-certificated flight instructor who thrives in a fast-paced, innovative environment and is eager to help shape the future of vertical flight.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience leading and managing people
- FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate
- Instrument Airplane rating
- A minimum of 1000 hours of pilot-in-command (PIC) flight time
- 2+ years of experience as a military or civilian instructor pilot
- 2+ years as a military or civilian operational, developmental, or production flight test pilot
- Ability to maintain at least a second-class FAA medical certificate
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- Ability and willingness to work extended hours
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally for business purposes
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English
Nice To Haves
- FAA-certified flight instructor
- Prior experience developing aviation courseware
- Airplane, Powered-Lift, and Rotorcraft commercial pilot certificate (all three)
- Bachelor’s degree in aviation, engineering, or related discipline
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the S4 pilot training courseware
- Contribute to the development of a standardized training course for S4 instructor pilots
- Lead and manage a growing team of instructor pilots
- Deliver standardized training modules, including before flight planning and briefing, training in both simulators and in aircraft, and after flight debriefs
- Analyze the performance of trainees and write reports on the findings
- Contribute to internal flight safety and standardization discussions
- Complete all required documentation in accordance with established Company and FAA procedures
- Observe all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices
- Perform other duties as assigned
