About The Position

GM’s global manufacturing engineering team is transforming manufacturing facilities through the adoption of advanced technologies and improved processes. The Assistant Total Manufacturing Integration Engineer will provide technical leadership for complex manufacturing problems, including troubleshooting, equipment installation and qualification, manufacturing-process issue closure, training, and work assignment. The role will manage a team of approximately 4–6 process engineers responsible for manufacturing processes, equipment and tooling alternatives, sequence and flow of operations, and effective utilization of personnel, materials, machines, and facilities. Work will be performed in a centralized manufacturing engineering environment requiring creativity, initiative, independent judgment, and cross-functional coordination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Ten or more years of manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of plant-floor operations and design for manufacturability.
  • Ability to travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop direct reports.
  • Two or more years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • In-depth experience with transmission systems highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of a team of 4–6 process engineers, including setting objectives, managing results, and evaluating and coaching individual performance.
  • Meet program timing requirements and PTC milestones.
  • Meet program cost targets and maintain cost accuracy.
  • Lead the development and implementation of program-specific manufacturing processes.
  • Support the Launch Wall process through the Manufacturing Validation Build Plan and PPAP.
  • Interface with plant personnel, Central Manufacturing Engineering personnel, and Product Engineering teams on new programs and projects.
  • Analyze first-time-quality data and optimize processes using statistical tools such as Red X and Design of Experiments.
  • Develop process documentation for new products and processes, including Process Flow Diagrams, Process Control Plans, and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analyses.
  • Oversee and help coordinate PPAP and GP-12 activities.
  • Provide technical direction to less-experienced process engineers.
  • Support Business Plan Deployment initiatives and coordinate engineering activities to achieve business-plan objectives.
  • Provide technical direction to and oversight of outside vendor sources.
  • Support continuous-improvement projects at plant sites to improve Safety, People, Quality, Reliability, and Cost performance.
  • Travel to GM plants to provide launch support and meet other business needs; expected travel is approximately 25–30% within the United States and Mexico.
