About The Position

Under minimal supervision, this role fabricates and installs upholstery, covers panels, and makes simple patterns for aircraft interiors using design/engineering drawings and aircraft specifications. The technician will work with various materials including fabric, vinyl, leather hides, and composites, utilizing specified adhesives, sewing equipment, hardware, hand tools, and various power tools. Responsibilities include cutting and surging carpets, covering bulkheads, and installing panels. Depending on skill level, the role may also involve fabricating metal parts, fitting panels and windows, and working on cabin headliners, upper sidewalls, lower side panels, hatch panels, and windows. The technician will use a material tracking system to manage parts demand, track squawks, and sign off on work. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with lead technicians on process improvements using Lean Manufacturing techniques, adhering to safety and housekeeping policies, and using personal protective equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2 years experience using commercial sewing machines, sergers and/or various hand tools used in upholstery and carpet trades.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand proficiently the English language.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering documentation.
  • Ability to use measuring tools and perform basic math computations.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Able to climb ladders and stairs, work in small restricted areas, lift up to 40 pounds and work any shift.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of Trim Shop PSU experience required.
  • Experience in aerospace industry.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, cover, and install flat panels and curtains using design/engineering drawings and aircraft specifications.
  • Sew simple covers using design/engineering drawings and aircraft specifications.
  • Work with fabric, vinyl, leather hides, composites, and other materials using specified adhesives, sewing equipment, hardware, hand tools, and various power tools.
  • Cut and surge carpets, cover bulkheads, and cover/install panels.
  • Fabricate various metal parts, fit panels and windows, cabin headliners, upper sidewalls, lower side panels, hatch panels, and windows.
  • Use the material tracking system to create parts demand, track squawks, and sign off on work.
  • Work with lead and higher skilled technicians to develop and implement process improvements that increase safety, reduce cost, cycle time, and man-hours using Lean Manufacturing and other process improvement techniques.
  • Comply with safety, 5S, and housekeeping policies and use personal protective equipment as required.
  • Address unsafe conditions before putting others at risk.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
