About The Position

This role involves conducting inspections for highway structures and Adopt-A-Highway sites, coordinating with various stakeholders, and managing administrative tasks related to permits and supplies. The Apprentice Inspector will be responsible for assessing service levels, reviewing applications, documenting findings, and assisting with vehicle maintenance. This position plays a key role in ensuring the upkeep and compliance of city infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Must possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York.
  • License must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in highways and sewers inspection.
  • Familiarity with Adopt-A-Highway programs.

  • Skills in permit coordination and logistics.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-inspections to determine required service levels for highway structures.
  • Coordinate and conduct pre and post inspections of Adopt-A-Highway sites.
  • Provide written reports and digital photos of inspections.
  • Provide recommendations to the Director as needed.
  • Conduct reviews of field inspections to determine if all criteria for adoption of a highway are met.
  • Assist in permit coordination based on observed logistical data.
  • Assist with the coordination of supplies and storage, including delivery to volunteer groups.
  • Create receipts and track inventory.
  • Review and process Adopt-A-Highway applications/contracts.
  • Coordinate and conduct highway site inspections, determining if required service levels are adequate and/or completed as scheduled.
  • Create weekly written summary reports of inspections and notifications for the Director.
  • Assist with the maintenance of unit vehicles, including scheduling and delivering vehicles for preventative maintenance, repairs, and car washes.
