About The Position

This role involves conducting inspections for highways and sewers, focusing on determining required service levels, coordinating with various sites and applications, and assisting with logistical and administrative tasks. The Apprentice Inspector will play a key part in ensuring compliance with adoption criteria for highway sites and supporting volunteer groups. This position requires attention to detail in reporting, inventory management, and coordination of resources.

Requirements

  • Must possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York.
  • This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-inspections to determine required service levels for particular highway structures.
  • Coordinate and conduct pre and post inspections of Adopt-A-Highway sites.
  • Provide written reports and digital photos of inspections.
  • Provide recommendations to the Director as needed.
  • Conduct reviews of field inspections to determine if all criteria for adoption of a highway are met.
  • Assist in permit coordination based on observed logistical data.
  • Assist with the coordination of supplies and storage, including delivery to volunteer groups.
  • Create receipts and track inventory.
  • Review and process Adopt-A-Highway applications/contracts.
  • Coordinate and conduct highway site inspections, determining if required service levels are adequate and/or completed as scheduled.
  • Create weekly written summary reports of inspections and notifications for the Director.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the unit’s vehicles, including scheduling and delivering vehicles for preventative maintenance, repairs, and car washes.
