About The Position

Interstate Waste Services is seeking a Fleet Technology Technician to provide first-line support for all onboard truck technology and related hardware. This role involves assisting with problems via phone, email, remote support, site visits, or along the driver’s route. The technician is responsible for the safe and productive operation of fleet assets through efficient daily activities. IWS is a progressive provider of solid waste and recycling services in the greater New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets, with a rail-served landfill in Ohio. Founded in 1998, IWS combines the resources of a large company with the values of a family-run business.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required
  • 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Fluency in English
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record is strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of PC’s, USB peripherals, Bluetooth, Serial (RS-232), Cellular Data, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish is a plus
  • Travel in company vehicles to all locations in New Jersey, New York State, New York City, Pennsylvania, and Ohio as needed. Overnight stay(s) could require (Rare).
  • Training at an installation related school or program is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Install the Route ware tablet, and interface all components with the systems on the vehicles, including the in-cab video cameras, Samsara Cameras, and radios.
  • Maintain a high degree of customer service for all support inquiries and adhere to all service management principles.
  • Take ownership of user problems and be proactive when dealing with user issues.
  • Disassemble vehicle interiors without damaging the vehicle or interior components, or locate information if disassembly procedure is unknown.
  • Identify component failures quickly and replace as necessary.
  • Properly choose and run wires, cables, and harness assemblies throughout the vehicle (including into the engine compartment, trunk/hatch and doors) using safe and serviceable methods, observing current capacity, weatherproofing, passage of wire through metal, wiring alongside existing vehicle wiring, and where wiring passes near moving parts.
  • Install Bluetooth hands-free cellular devices or modules, or wireless audio streaming devices or modules with driver safety as a priority, and in a way that maintains standard vehicle operation and safety features. Hands-free devices should be installed in compliance with all local and Federal laws, as well as in compliance with CEA recommended practices.
  • Approach all encounters with employees, customers and vendors in a friendly, service-oriented manner.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality of all verbal and/or documented information.
  • Other projects and tasks assigned.
