About The Position

A Route Service Apprentice is a starting position within the Service Department, designed to provide individuals with the foundational knowledge and experience needed for a career in route service. The role involves riding with experienced Route Service Representatives to learn best practices and customer management techniques. Apprentices will receive mentorship to understand the operational flow of the Service Department. Upon completion of initial training, apprentices will fill in for absent Route Service Representatives or assist with new account installations. The apprenticeship period typically lasts six to twelve months, with the potential for promotion to Route Service Representative upon route availability or company growth.

Requirements

  • Clean driving record
  • Valid Iowa Class D Chauffeurs driver's license required
  • Must be 25 or older

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years job-related and/or customer service related experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Filling in or assisting on any of the 17 routes
  • Providing prompt and effective customer service
  • Loading and unloading delivery trucks with clean and/or soiled laundry
  • Delivering products to customers
  • Ensuring customer satisfaction
  • Managing route efficiency and safety
  • Communicating positively with customers, potential customers, and co-workers
  • Maintaining product knowledge, including pricing types, colors, sizing, inventory control, availability, and product application
  • Loading the truck, including organization, invoices, paperwork, and bags
  • Maintaining account appearance, including organization of rails, hanger racks, repair bags, and lockers
  • Communicating timely about truck maintenance, preventative maintenance, cleanliness, and accidents
  • Driving a commercial motor vehicle for at least 10 hours on a daily basis
  • Lifting up to 60 pounds on a frequent basis
  • Maintaining hygienically clean standards of garments by proper handling
  • Performing other duties as assigned
  • Maintaining regular and reliable attendance
  • Driving truck to accounts (30-50 stops per day)
  • Unloading clean laundry from truck into account’s location (use 2-wheel cart provided whenever possible)
  • Sorting, collecting and gathering soiled uniforms, linens, mats, etc.
  • Loading dirty laundry onto truck
  • Loading truck with clean laundry for the next day’s route
  • Pulling cart full of clean laundry to truck
  • Unloading clean laundry from cart into truck
  • Pushing uniforms from rail system to rail closest to truck
  • Loading hanging uniforms onto racks inside truck
