About The Position

Spee Dee Delivery is a family-owned and operated company founded in 1978. Its core business is standard, next-day, ground delivery, and it operates throughout the Midwest. The Route Driver represents the company while delivering and picking up freight from customers and shippers. Available part-time schedules start at 7:30 AM: Monday through Wednesday, or Thursday through Saturday; Saturday shifts are 5–6 hours. Starting pay is $21.00–$26.25 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, skills, and internal equity. The role is nonexempt and requires passing a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.

Requirements

Be at least 21 years of age.
Hold a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record that meets company standards.
Be able to pass a DOT physical exam.
Be able to bend, lift, twist, and climb stairs while moving freight on and off the company vehicle.
Be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
Be able to work with various types of freight, including hazardous materials, perishable food, alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and live animals.
Pass a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Ability to operate a manual transmission, or willingness to learn.
Good customer service skills and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

Deliver and pick up freight from customers and shippers in a timely manner.
Inspect the vehicle for mechanical problems and report any issues.
Load the truck in an organized manner to use space effectively and prevent package damage.
Collect payment for certain delivered packages.
Verify pickup contents against shipping papers.
Notify management of problems or discrepancies.
Maintain a professional personal appearance and keep the vehicle clean.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
