About The Position

Position is responsible for instructing secondary school students in the JROTC curriculum. The role involves serving as secretary to a supervisor, greeting visitors, answering telephones, and providing information. The instructor will prepare and maintain files and records, instruct cadets in the JROTC curriculum, and conduct training at JROTC and summer camps. Responsibilities include developing short and long-range plans for curriculum goals, gathering materials, establishing clear objectives, and formulating lesson plans. The teacher will create a classroom environment conducive to learning and student growth, evaluate student progress, counsel cadets, and motivate them to develop skills for responsible citizenship. The role also involves monitoring student movement for safety, organizing and supervising extracurricular activities like color guard and drill teams, and maintaining JROTC student records according to regulations and local policies. Compliance with safety guidelines, maintaining supply accountability, employing various instructional techniques, modeling non-discriminatory practices, and attending professional development activities are also key aspects of the position. The instructor will set an example with positive attitudes and maintain knowledge of new instructional methods and technology.

Requirements

  • Officer or Warrant Officer with at least 20 years active duty, or Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA) program with 15 or more years active duty, who is eligible to receive retirement pay.
  • Confirmed retirement date from Manpower Management Separation and Retirement Branch.
  • Retiring or transferring to the Fleet Marine Corps Reserve (FMCR) as an Officer with at least 20 years active service and eligible for retirement pay.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Competitive military record.
  • Physically qualified according to MCJROTC standards.
  • Warrant Officer (without a college Degree) or SNCO with at least 20 years active duty, or Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA) program with 15 or more years of active duty and eligible to receive retirement pay.
  • Retiring or transferring to the Fleet Marine Corps Reserve (FMCR) as a SNCO with at least 20 years active service and eligible for either retirement pay or retainer pay upon EAS.
  • High school graduate.
  • Minimum GT score of 100 on Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB).
  • Must be a retired United States Marine Corps Non-Commissioned Officer.
  • Must be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License and meet the minimum qualifications required by the United States Marine Corp.
  • Must possess effective instructional delivery techniques, excellent communication skills, and the ability to motivate students to excel.

  • Complete an Associate's Degree within 5 years of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes, supervises and participates in extracurricular activities for JROTC cadets to include color guard, drill teams and other special activities.
  • Maintains JROTC student records as required by the MCJROTC regulations and local policies.
  • Complies with MCJROTC and school district safety guidelines when instructing, supervising, monitoring, and accompanying cadets.
  • Maintains supply accountability in strict compliance with MCJROTC security regulations.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media.
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Attends staff development programs, department meetings and other professional activities.
  • Sets an example and models positive attitudes, knowledge, and skills for cadets.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of new instructional methods, technology and equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.
