About The Position

Conducts engineering duties for the rotating equipment discipline and functions as a technical specialist, formulating and developing engineering solutions. This role involves providing rotating equipment engineering assistance, direction, and solutions, and solving technical challenges related to unit operations and capital projects in assigned areas. The engineer will upgrade, design, configure, maintain, and monitor related equipment and performance, as well as analyze related components and systems, processes and methods, and refinery processes and economics. They will develop initial project scopes (DG0) for approval and ensure projects meet budget as well as refinery and OSHA standards. The position also ensures the maintenance and integrity of applicable rotating equipment data and analyzes data to aid operations with decisions regarding rotating equipment. The engineer is expected to research and stay abreast of assigned discipline subjects, innovations, and leading-edge developments, and develop systems to document and track the maintenance of rotating equipment systems. Responsibilities may include participating in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), incident investigations, Management of Change, Process Safety related audits, and Layers Of Protection Analysis (LOPA) reviews. The role involves conducting research for new and improved rotating equipment solutions, investigating and resolving work-in-process problems, recommending and implementing improvements, and reviewing vendor proposals. The ultimate goal is to improve the reliability, safety, and profitability of the refinery.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five years of progressive related work experience.
  • Ability to manage technical changes is essential.
  • Working knowledge of commonly used engineering concepts and ability to apply this knowledge analytically.
  • Ability to stay abreast of new technology developments and processes is essential.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, strong verbal communication skills, advanced level of reading and writing, ability to perform advanced mathematical calculations.
  • Advanced ability to work effectively with multiple groups throughout the refinery.
  • Strong spreadsheet and word processing applications knowledge; strong interpersonal, time-management and organizational skills; ability to provide training to multiple groups on a variety of applicable assigned discipline topics.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline is required.
  • Ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, valid state driver's license and proof of insurance required.

  • A strong understanding of basic refinery processes and the elements of process safety is advantageous.

  • Conduct research to develop new and improved rotating equipment solutions; e.g., wireless vibration monitoring
  • Investigate and resolve work-in-process problems
  • Recommend and implement improvements and/or modification in sequence of operations, equipment utilization, and related matters
  • Review proposals of outside vendors regarding the purchase of new or modernization of existing processing equipment
  • Improve reliability, safety, and profitability of the refinery
  • Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion
