About The Position
Shell is seeking a Rotating & Electrical Assurance Engineer to improve the reliability, performance, and integrity of critical rotating and electrical equipment across refinery and chemical operations. The role drives reliability initiatives, leads failure investigations, enhances condition-monitoring programs, and improves maintenance and repair quality to reduce equipment failures and unplanned downtime. The engineer works with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Production, and Reliability teams to develop and execute strategies that improve asset performance, support mechanical integrity, and strengthen operational reliability. The position also provides technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring; supports High Reliability Organization principles; monitors reliability KPIs; and supports compliance with corporate standards, inspection programs, and asset-integrity requirements. The role is based in Louisiana, United States, within Shell’s Downstream and Renewables business unit.
Requirements
- Must have legal authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis for an employer other than the current employer.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- At least 5 years of experience in Reliability Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, Asset Integrity, or a related technical role within refining, petrochemical, chemical manufacturing, power generation, or another heavy industrial environment.
- Experience conducting Root Cause Analysis, failure investigations, and implementing corrective actions to improve equipment reliability and prevent recurring failures.
- Strong knowledge of reliability engineering principles and methodologies, including FMEA, Weibull Analysis, Life Cycle Cost Analysis, and other reliability improvement tools.
- Experience supporting rotating and electrical equipment, including pumps, compressors, turbines, motors, and related systems.
- Experience managing equipment repair projects and driving maintenance and reliability improvements.
- Knowledge of condition-monitoring and predictive-maintenance technologies, including vibration analysis, motor diagnostics, and equipment performance monitoring.
- Understanding of equipment criticality assessments, reliability risk evaluations, and maintenance strategy development.
- Familiarity with industry standards and engineering codes, including API, ASME, ANSI, and NFPA, and related inspection and maintenance requirements.
- Understanding of Management of Change, process safety, and HSSE requirements.
- Experience with machinery troubleshooting, electrical maintenance, electrical safety programs, hazardous-area classifications, and equipment performance analysis.
- Experience using condition monitoring, causal learning, and continuous-improvement methodologies to enhance asset reliability and operational performance.
- Must have or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
Responsibilities
- Drive reliability improvement initiatives for rotating and electrical equipment across refinery and chemical operations.
- Lead failure investigations, causal learning reviews, and Root Cause Analyses to eliminate recurring equipment failures.
- Develop and execute reliability strategies focused on repair quality, condition monitoring, and continuous improvement.
- Lead and support condition-monitoring programs, including vibration analysis, motor monitoring, and predictive maintenance.
- Support High Reliability Organization principles by improving equipment reliability through people, processes, and technology.
- Monitor and report reliability KPIs and identify opportunities to improve asset performance and maintenance effectiveness.
- Lead or participate in mechanical integrity, electrical safety, substation, and area-classification audits.
- Serve as the site focal point for lubrication management and reliability improvement programs.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical leadership to engineers and technical teams.
- Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, and Reliability teams to improve equipment performance and reduce unplanned downtime.
- Support compliance with corporate standards, inspection programs, and asset-integrity requirements.
