About The Position

The Rotating Assistant Manager position with Alvarado Street Brewery is designed for individuals seeking to expand their experience in restaurant management across three locations. This role requires an energetic and passionate candidate eager to learn all facets of restaurant operations. The Assistant Manager will serve as an ambassador for Alvarado Street Brewery (ASB), championing a culture of ethics, fairness, and equitable treatment. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with various management teams and gain insight into the daily operations of each location. The ideal candidate will have a strong enthusiasm for the beer industry and a desire to promote ASB's unique qualities. As a manager, responsibilities include overseeing staff, ensuring they stay on task, and providing excellent guest service. The role involves supporting and ensuring compliance with standards, protocols, and processes established by the General Manager. We are seeking a self-directed individual who can be entrusted with critical and confidential information across multiple restaurants. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Previous supervisory experience, preferably within a restaurant.
  • Prior experience working in a fast-paced restaurant environment.

  • Intermediate accounting and arithmetic skills.

Responsibilities

  • Learn how each location schedules employees and communicate changes timely.
  • Understand how to generally use Hotschedules.
  • Learn different tip out percentages and tip procedures for each position/location.
  • Count daily drops and keep petty cash balanced using the ledger.
  • Effectively utilize the Toast POS system for various functions including comps, voids, discounts, auto gratuities, adjusting time clocks, printing reports, making buttons, and 86ing/un86ing items. Gradually expand knowledge of reports and functions as needed.
  • Enter new employee information into the POS system.
  • Assist with conducting new staff orientation, training, checklists, and quizzing.
  • Process incoming mail and know the proper places to sort items.
  • Identify invoices and code them correctly in a timely manner.
  • Assist with counting monthly inventory accurately.
  • Efficiently respond to emails, phone messages, or Slack messages.
  • Check location-specific emails to ensure timely responses.
  • Learn the logistics of each FOH position to support, train, and oversee employees.
  • Be present on the floor during lunch and dinner service to assist servers, bussers, runners, bartenders, and hosts.
  • Ensure FOH staff checks out properly and completes all side work before clocking out.
  • Provide conflict resolution between employees and guests.
  • Work with security to de-escalate situations or altercations with guests.
  • Coach, counsel, and discipline staff as needed to ensure accountability in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Properly and thoroughly communicate with the management team/HR.
  • Keep staff on task with side projects during slow periods and phase when necessary.
  • Attend manager's meetings and contribute ideas.
  • Handle or report maintenance issues with quick turn-around and keep the log up to date.
  • Lead stand-ups with staff and work with them on menu and beverage education.
  • Touch tables and check with guests to ensure satisfaction.
  • Ensure all employees are offered/provided rest and meal breaks.
  • Keep storages and offices organized and all restaurant items stocked in the proper location.
  • Assist management teams with orders and alert them when items are running low.
  • Communicate with Human Resources regarding employee hires, terms, changes, and other needs.
  • Possess a basic understanding of labor budgets and manage them daily.
  • Communicate daily via email or manager's log to pass on pertinent information.
  • Communicate with management and other locations as required.
  • Assist the restaurant director or GMs with any special needs or tasks.
  • Comply with all Company safety and health policies and procedures.
