About The Position

The Ropes Course Guide will lead guests on an inspiring and educational journey through the trees on Blackberry Mountain’s Canopy Course and be responsible for all course inspections required to meet industry standards. This role involves teaching guests about the local flora and fauna, how to operate course equipment, and ensuring their safety and enjoyment throughout the adventure. The guide will also be responsible for maintaining trails and grounds, performing equipment and course inspections, and potentially transporting guests. The position requires a commitment to safety, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Requirements

  • Must be certified in First Aid and Wilderness First Aid
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with guests, managers and team members
  • Able to perform basic math computations
  • Must be able to resolve any issues regarding guests in relation to the program
  • Must be able to exercise judgment and make decisions based on safety, job knowledge and awareness of company goals
  • Able to remain calm and make quick decisions in emergency rescue scenario
  • Employee will be wearing a harness for several hours at a time during their shift
  • Working with various power tools including but not limited to chainsaws, drills, etc.
  • Excellent physical dexterity and fine motor skills to operate all gear in a variety of weather conditions
  • Must have the ability to use hands for utilization of ropes and equipment to meet all climbing and safety needs, including tying of knots, adjusting harnesses, operating carabiners and other equipment
  • The employee is required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance including occasional spotting
  • Must be prepared for other demanding physical challenges, including hiking and carrying heavy loads
  • Must be able to consistently lift up to 45 lbs. and occasionally up to 75 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to be on feet for long periods of time
  • Must be able to safely operate a company vehicle or golf cart

Nice To Haves

  • Past experience operating a ropes course is strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with ropes, carabiners, harnesses and other climbing gear

Responsibilities

  • Lead guests on guided Canopy Course Adventures
  • Maintain trails and grounds accompanying the Canopy Course
  • Perform required inspections of all equipment as scheduled
  • Perform required inspections of course components as scheduled
  • Teach guests about the plant and wildlife of the Mountain
  • Teach guests how to operate all equipment involved in the Canopy Adventure
  • Transport guests to desired locations when necessary
  • Complete necessary training for ACCT Level 1 high ropes certification
  • Display proficiency in rescue procedures
