About The Position

This role involves performing specialized insulation work using rope access techniques. The technician will be responsible for installing, removing, repairing, and inspecting various types of mechanical and thermal insulation systems. This includes working with a range of insulation materials and associated systems like vapor barriers and jacketing. The position also requires adherence to strict safety protocols, including the use of two-rope access systems according to IRATA or SPRAT standards, and the ability to identify and address hazards. Additionally, the role includes general maintenance of company equipment and vehicles, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Level I, II or Level III Rope Certification through SPRAT or IRATA
  • Demonstrated skill, knowledge, or experience in craft areas such as Coatings, Insulating, Pipe Fitting, Welding, Mechanical.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry objects up to 75 pounds on loose, rough or uneven terrain.
  • Ability to occasionally exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 150 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to climb and work at heights, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, stand for long periods, walk, push, pull, repetitive motion, work in confined spaces, work in extreme cold and heat, visual acuity, work near hazards including moving mechanical parts, work near electrical components and exposures to chemicals.
  • Meet weight restrictions to ensure safety when utilizing safety harnesses.
  • Professional Appearance and Conduct – Dress appropriately for the assignment and maintain good hygiene.
  • Customer Service - Interact professionally with customers. Punctual arrival to assignments.
  • Teamwork – able to work effectively as part of a team and to provide instruction to others effectively and professionally.

  • NDT Methods – Expertise in multiple NDT methods and willingness to engage in ongoing learning and application of skills.
  • API 653, 570 & 510 certification.
  • NDT certs: UT, MT, PT, RT, DR, RAD 40 & state card (TX).
  • Confined space certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform work using two-rope access systems in accordance with IRATA or SPRAT standards.
  • Install, adjust, inspect, and dismantle rope access systems as required.
  • Maintain proper work positioning and tool control at all times.
  • Identify hazards and exercise stop-work authority when conditions are unsafe.
  • Install, remove, and repair mechanical insulation (piping, vessels, tanks).
  • Install, remove, and repair thermal, acoustic, and cryogenic insulation.
  • Install, remove, and repair removable and permanent insulation systems.
  • Work with insulation materials including mineral wool, calcium silicate, fiberglass, and aerogel.
  • Install vapor barriers, jacketing, cladding, and weatherproofing systems.
  • Inspect insulation systems for damage, moisture intrusion, corrosion under insulation (CUI), or degradation.
  • Perform general cleaning and minor maintenance duties to maintain company vehicles.
  • Routinely inspect equipment and maintain shop areas in a clean, orderly, and functional condition.
  • Perform duties as assigned.
