Assists the department in the preparation, assembly, and delivery process for patient meal service. Solves customer problems, treats customers with dignity and respect, and responds quickly to their needs. All patients, nursing unit staff, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers will be given prompt and courteous attention. Telephone courtesy and patient confidentiality must be maintained at all times. When completing telephone calls or patient visitation, refer to written scripts for appropriate greeting and content. Answer questions within your scope of practice and refer other questions to the appropriate person. Processes correct diets and portions for all age groups from pediatrics through elderly adults. Assesses and interprets age-appropriate data about the patient’s status to identify age-specific needs and provide the care needed. Assesses floor stock needs in patient unit kitchens. Processes Room Service customer orders, including patient/family initiated orders and those patients needing assistance. Assists patients with telephone call backs or personal visitation as needed while ensuring adherence to all diet orders. Reviews Health Touch information to determine which patients have not placed an order for that meal period, and initiates telephone or personal contact with the patient and/or patient care services as appropriate. Takes phone calls and fax orders for all food requests. Receives requests for diet changes via computer, fax, or written format during downtime. Makes necessary diet changes and keeps the Room Service order system updated. Follows standard procedures for diet patterns. Coordinates processing and printing of AM and PM nourishment orders and the delivery of all tube feeding and oral supplement orders. Reports suspected violations of all relevant laws, regulations, Compliance Policies and Procedures, and the CODE OF CONDUCT. Assists in the assembly and accuracy of patient meal trays and the delivery, pick-up, breakdown, and cleaning/sanitation of patient service operations. Under the general supervision of the Nutritional Services Manager and Supervisor, assists with the coordination of the morning and evening activities of patient meal service, including preparation, delivery, and cleanup in the department. Performs all work in a safe and sanitary manner. Maintains all workstations in a neat and organized manner. Responds and cooperates with changes in workload. Actively supports and participates in performance improvement activities, including but not limited to tray assessments, meal rounds, and department committees. Complies with all policies, standards, mandatory training, and requirements of Stormont Vail Health. Performs other duties as assigned.
