About The Position
Rookie Sports Instructor Join the YMCA Team! Do you enjoy working with young children, being active, and helping kids discover the joy of sports for the very first time? The YMCA is looking for enthusiastic and energetic individuals to join our team as Rookie Sports Instructors! Rookie Sports is a fun, interactive weekly program designed to introduce children ages 3–6 to the BASICS of a variety of sports in a supportive and encouraging environment. This 45-minute class uses engaging drills, games, and activities to help children build confidence, coordination, teamwork, and a love for being active. Position Summary Rookie Sports is a beginner-friendly youth sports program that focuses on introducing young children to multiple sports through age-appropriate activities and structured lesson plans. Classes are led by multiple staff members with parent involvement to create a positive and engaging experience for every child. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to make a difference in the community without a large time commitment!
Requirements
- Enjoys working with children ages 3–6
- Energetic, patient, and encouraging personality
- Experience engaging with youth preferred
- Ability to work evenings or weekends during program seasons
- Dependable and able to work well as part of a team
Nice To Haves
- No Extensive Sports Background Required! Our Rookie Sports program is designed to be approachable and easy to teach. Staff members do not need an advanced understanding of every sport introduced in the program. With predetermined lesson plans, supportive team teaching, and simple beginner-level drills and games, instructors can confidently lead classes while creating a positive first sports experience for young children.
Responsibilities
- Help lead weekly 45-minute Rookie Sports classes
- Assist with beginner-level drills, games, and activities
- Encourage participation, teamwork, and confidence building
- Support parents and children in a fun, welcoming environment
- Follow predetermined lesson plans provided by the YMCA
- Work alongside additional staff members during classes
