About The Position

Join the University of Arizona as a skilled and knowledgeable Roofer to help keep campus buildings safe, secure, and protected year-round. This role involves working on a range of roofing systems and projects, offering opportunities to apply expertise, solve problems, and expand skills. In this hands-on role, you will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of roofing systems, including self-adhered, hot asphalt, cold-process, shingles, tile, single-ply gravel, and metal roofs. You will rely on your technical knowledge and experience to assess conditions, determine the best approach, and make sound decisions right at the job site. This position requires the candidate to work during off hours, if needed, to repair roofs during monsoon storms.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of roofing systems such as self-adhered, hot asphalt, cold -process, shingles, tile, single-ply gravel and metal roofs.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to drive and operate forklift.
  • Ability to drive and operate forward reach and scissor lifts.
  • Ability to operate coating sprayers.
  • Ability to operate pressure washer.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrated skills in basic estimating and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated basic computer skills.
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience is required, or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, apprenticeship training, and relevant experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide roof maintenance and roof inspections on routine schedules to include cleaning roof surfaces and gutters of debris through our Preventative Maintenance program.
  • Provides roof maintenance and roof inspections on routine schedule, which includes repairing cracks and blisters, caulking cracks, correcting misaligned tiles and defective flashing through our Preventative Maintenance program.
  • Apply and repair reflective coatings through our Preventative Maintenance program.
  • Utilize safety equipment to perform all work duties in a safe manner.
  • Responds to leak calls and fix issues.
  • Build-up ponding area.
  • Moisture-proofs stem walls, foundation walls and planters.
  • Apply walk deck materials to create safe slip resistant walking surfaces on stairs, landings and ramps.
  • Maintain and replace all heat tape/mats relative to roof structure.
  • Maintain and stock repair materials for several different roofing systems.
  • Maintain University vehicles by keeping them clean, stocked and minor maintenance including checking tire pressure, fluids and exterior conditions of the vehicle.
  • Maintain University Tools by keeping them clean, performing minor maintenance when needed and performing safety inspections on items including hand tools, Power tools, ladders, dollies, etc.
  • Maintain and keep clean the University provided uniforms.
  • Maintain and keep the shop clean and storage for roof shop.
  • Maintain communication with the roof shop and other facilities shops.
