This role is based at ArcelorMittal USA Research in Calvert, AL, and will support plants primarily in North America operations. The position involves advanced research and development in the field of hot and cold rolling of steel flats, requiring a strong background in physical metallurgy, material mechanics, rolling theory, and heat treatment, along with experience in statistical tools, instrumentation, and data analysis. The goal is to identify, evaluate, and develop advanced processes and technologies to support the manufacturing of new steel grades, develop and implement complex process models of the rolling process, and apply these models to improve operations, enhance reliability, and reduce costs. Superior communication and interpersonal skills are essential for cross-functional collaboration with commercial, quality, manufacturing, and Global R&D teams in an industrial environment.

Requirements

  • In-depth understanding of material mechanics, process dynamics, statistics, and instrumentation.
  • 3 years’ experience in metals industry, hot or cold rolling areas.
  • MS Degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Materials Engineering

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years’ experience in metals industry, hot and cold rolling research.
  • Ph.D. in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Materials Engineering

Responsibilities

  • Create, plan and execute R&D projects observing timelines, budgets and company safety rules.
  • Research, develop & evaluate new processes and technologies in the field of cold and hot rolling.
  • Provide high level technical assistance to ArcelorMittal Americas cold and hot rolling operations.
  • Develop and implement advanced mathematical models to improve the capability of ArcelorMittal’s cold and hot rolling facilities.
  • Generate new scientific knowledge in the field of rolling.
