About The Position

The maintenance Roll Grinder performs a full range of assignments using independent judgement to make decisions requiring the application of procedures and practices to specific work situations. He or she performs a variety of fabrication tasks related to heavy industrial equipment. Must successfully complete the required training and medical exam as well as have a thorough knowledge of the appropriate Job Instruction Breakdown (JIB) for their assigned area.

Requirements

  • Journeyman status or equivalent experience in Roll Grinder trade.
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance tasks on equipment.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals.
  • Basic knowledge of materials such as steel alloy (differentiate alloy numbers), bronze, aluminum, and cast iron.
  • Be willing to work off-shifts, weekends and overtime if required.
  • Can run manual machines such as lathes, mills, grinders, and other equipment.
  • Familiar with Lathe Math Skills and Measuring Tools.
  • Knowledge of component assembly like press fit tolerances, or shrink fit tolerances.
  • Knowledge of fixturing and set up of large parts (how to position parts on machine to achieve accurate results).
  • Knowledge of machine tools, equipment, materials, and inspection methods.
  • Knowledge of which equipment is best suited for task in considering efficiency, accuracy, resources, and limits of equipment.
  • Use of measuring equipment both manual and electronic (Micrometers, Vernier calipers, height gauges, pro-mikes).

Responsibilities

  • Perform fabrication projects.
  • Perform daily lubrication and maintenance of machine and other duties such as wheel dressing and machine set-up to keep parts within tolerance and finish specifications.
  • Perform bearing maintenance, rotation, and lubrication as per bearing maintenance schedule.
  • Set up and operate CNC machines.
  • Operate surface grinders and lathes.
  • Prepare rolls for external processing (EDT and Chrome Plating), pack the rolls accordingly, load and unload trucks.
  • Inspect returned rolls from external processing, checking that rolls conform to specifications.
  • Operate all machinery in the Roll Grinding Shop (Including Pro-Mikes).
  • Perform parts rigging.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment by strictly adhering to the departmental procedures.
  • Meet both quality and scheduling expectations.
  • Troubleshoot issues and problems and come up with creative solutions.
