About The Position

MasTec Civil is seeking a Rodman to assist the Party Chief with construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey tasks. The role involves working in the field with surveying equipment and supporting the layout and measurement of land and construction features. The position is onsite in St. Augustine, Florida. Compensation starts at $23 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of construction-field experience with layout or survey responsibilities, or equivalent experience in a similar craft.
• Developing knowledge of layout and survey work.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to understand and follow directions.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Take reasonable care of personal and others’ health and safety, including working toward MasTec Civil’s Zero Injury principles.

Responsibilities

• Hold a level or stadia rod at designated points to help determine elevations and lay out stakes for surveys; place and drive stakes to specified elevations.
• Cut and clear brush, trees, and other obstructions from survey lines.
• Measure distances between survey points using steel or cloth tape or a surveyor’s chain.
• Mark measuring points with markers, paint sticks, tacks, scratches, or stakes.
• Load and unload equipment and prepare for daily jobs.
• Help calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other terrain or installation characteristics.
• Determine longitudes and latitudes of features and boundaries using theodolites, transits, levels, and satellite-based GPS.
• Record survey results, including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features.
• Adjust surveying instruments to maintain their accuracy.
• Take on other special activities and responsibilities as assigned.
• Seek additional work or assist others after completing regular assignments.
• Continually improve surveying skills and knowledge.
• Be punctual and conduct oneself professionally with clients and coworkers.
• Meet project schedules and budgets.
