About The Position

Walt Disney Imagineering is the creative force behind all Disney theme parks, resorts, attractions, and cruise ships worldwide. Imagineers combine storytelling, art, science, and technology to create immersive experiences. Rockwork Engineering is specifically responsible for the structural engineering, coordination, and technical integration of rockwork elements in themed attractions. This is a Project Hire position with no guarantee of permanent placement.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited engineering school with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of structural engineering, including current technologies and codes, with a concentration in steel and concrete structures.
  • Working knowledge of the structural engineering discipline, including industry practices, construction methods and materials, codes, current technology, and the preparation and use of contract documents in all phases of design and construction.
  • Knowledge of the use of analytical software for structural engineering design.
  • A minimum of 6 years of work experience in civil, structural, and/or project engineering.
  • A minimum of 2 years managing a small team of structural or rockwork engineers and designers in the production of contract documents for construction.
  • Construction phase experience, including the submittal/shop drawing review process and on-site field inspections.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of structural design programs such as SAP2000, ETABS, RISA.
  • Proven experience with 3D modeling software: Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper, Navisworks, BIM360.
  • Engineer or Architect in Training certification preferred.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in California/Florida is desirable.
  • An advanced degree in the structural engineering field is preferred.
  • Progression toward professional licensure is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the design and engineering of complex rockwork structures.
  • Manage technical coordination of rockwork design documents, models, specifications, and basis of design with various disciplines (AR, ST, MEP, Civil, Landscape, Show, Ride, Creative) and the Rockwork Contractor, considering programmatic requirements.
  • Lead the technical coordination of rockwork design and construction, including facilitating meetings and maintaining an issues resolution log.
  • Organize and develop project design criteria, engineering work plans, rockwork schedules, meetings, and work plans for projects of varying complexity.
  • Facilitate quality assurance and control for both design documentation and field construction.
  • Direct project team members on coordination and integration activities related to the technical scope of work, including third-party consultants.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled project meetings with project teams, consultants, and contractors.
  • Provide project teams with rockwork design and construction details, lessons learned, and standards information to inform rockwork specifications.
  • Monitor work progress to ensure technical quality, interdisciplinary coordination, and production requirements are met.
  • Answer construction bid period questions and respond to and resolve field issues and questions.
  • Provide technical direction to in-house engineers and designers, and to outside consultants in the production of construction contract documents.
  • May lead a small team of rockwork engineers and designers in the production of construction documents for multiple attractions of medium complexity through all phases of design.
