About The Position

Avid4 Adventure has empowered kids to live active outdoor lifestyles through our unique outdoor programming for over 20 years. We have camps based throughout Colorado, Bay Area, California; Portland, Oregon; and Bellevue, Washington. This role involves leading rock climbing programs and supporting other camp activities, with comprehensive training provided for all core sports. Flexibility, adaptability, willingness to learn, and ownership of performance are essential for success in this summer position.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of camp.
  • Personal and/or professional climbing experience required.
  • Proficiency in trad climbing, building anchors (traditional and natural), top rope, a variety of climbing knots, and setting up rappels.
  • Must pass a pass/fail technical skills assessment as part of training.
  • Minimum of Basic First Aid, CPR, and Mandatory Reporter certification by the start of camp.
  • Drivers: Must be at least 20 years of age, possess a 3-year valid driver’s license, and have a clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • +1 years of experience working with kids in a professional or volunteer setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead rock climbing programs with a co-instructor for a group of campers.
  • Support other camp programs including mountain biking, paddling, and hiking.
  • Set top ropes and releasable rappels without supervision.
  • Manage, inventory, and conduct daily inspections of gear.
  • Ensure safety through risk management and teaching campers safe recreation practices.
  • Serve as a role model for campers, demonstrating and guiding appropriate behavior, attitudes, and activities.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to campers, parents, and Avid families.
  • Transport campers to and from program areas using company passenger vans with gear and flatbed trailers (for eligible drivers).

Benefits

  • Pay is determined based on position, additional responsibilities, relevant certifications, and staff tenure.
  • Starting Rate: $21.30/hour
  • Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) Certification Bonus: $400
  • Wilderness First Aid Certification Bonus: $100
  • Wilderness First Responder/EMT Certification Bonus: $350
  • Additional bonuses available for $100 - $400 per certification paid end-of-season.
  • Transportation and lodging provided for training in Portland, Oregon.
