Robotics Test & Debug Engineer

Tutor Intelligence•Watertown, MA
•$120,000 - $190,000•Onsite

About The Position

Tutor Intelligence is hiring a Robotics Test & Debug Engineer to support production of Sonny V2, a semi-humanoid robot expected to enter production in early 2027 and ramp to 18 robots per day. The engineer will help ensure every Sonny leaving the Watertown factory works by diagnosing and resolving failures and building test platforms that detect problems early. The role includes debugging robots and subassemblies to root cause, quickly resolving production-floor issues, and escalating design problems with clear data. The engineer will develop bench-test fixtures and hardware-in-the-loop rigs, build factory acceptance testing for every robot before shipment, and automate tests in Python with results logged to ION and Atlas. Recurring failures should be converted into new tests and process improvements. Success in the first year includes bench tests for Sonny’s critical subassemblies ahead of the 2027 ramp, automated factory acceptance testing with results traced to serial numbers, resolving most floor issues within Production Engineering without escalation, and reducing recurring failures month over month. This is a full-time, exempt, on-site role in Watertown, Massachusetts. The stated salary range is $120,000–$190,000 per year, with final pay based on experience and skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Hands-on root-cause debugging experience with robots or electromechanical systems.
  • Experience building test fixtures, bench rigs, or hardware-in-the-loop systems used by others.
  • Python experience for test automation and data analysis.
  • Strong electrical skills, including schematics, oscilloscopes, meters, and CAN.
  • Comfort working on the production floor alongside technicians.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience bringing a new robot or hardware product into production.
  • Experience with humanoid robots, mobile robots, or robot arms.
  • Embedded firmware or Linux experience.
  • MES/PLM experience, such as ION or similar systems.
  • Daily use of AI tools such as Claude to build tools and analyze data.

Responsibilities

  • Debug failing robots and subassemblies to identify root causes.
  • Resolve production-floor issues quickly and escalate design problems with clear data.
  • Design subassembly fixtures and hardware-in-the-loop test rigs.
  • Build end-of-line factory acceptance testing that every Sonny passes before shipment.
  • Write Python test sequences and log results to ION and Atlas.
  • Convert recurring failures into new tests and process improvements.
