Autonomous Systems Engineer

Bright Vision Technologies•Highlands Ranch, CO
•$100,000 - $150,000•Remote

About The Position

Bright Vision Technologies is seeking an experienced Autonomous Systems Engineer to design, build, and integrate software systems for autonomous robots and robotic platforms. The role spans the robotics software stack, from low-level sensor integration and motion planning to high-level perception and behavioral systems. The engineer will work with product, design, engineering, operations, and business stakeholders to turn ambiguous requirements into robust solutions, and will contribute to engineering quality through code and design reviews and mentorship. The position is a full-time, direct W2 role on Bright Vision Technologies’ in-house SOW engagement, with no third-party client or vendor. It is 100% remote within the continental United States. Salary is $100,000–$150,000. No new H1B sponsorship is available; qualified candidates who need an H1B transfer may apply.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least five years of robotics software engineering experience.
  • Strong programming skills in C++ and Python.
  • Hands-on experience with ROS or ROS 2 in production projects.
  • Solid experience in at least one of perception, localization, motion planning, or control.
  • Familiarity with sensor fusion and Kalman or particle filter techniques.
  • Experience with simulation environments such as Gazebo, Isaac Sim, or MuJoCo.
  • Strong debugging skills in real-time and concurrent systems.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Experience supporting field tests and hardware integration.
  • Must be willing to work directly as a full-time W2 employee of Bright Vision Technologies and contribute to its in-house SOW deliverables.
  • A technical coding assessment is mandatory.
  • No new H1B sponsorship is available; candidates with a valid H1B visa who require a transfer are welcome to apply.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Robotics or a related field.
  • Exposure to autonomous vehicles, drones, or industrial automation.
  • Experience with safety-critical software, including ISO 26262 or IEC 61508.
  • Familiarity with ML-based perception pipelines.
  • Open-source contributions in robotics.

Responsibilities

  • Develop reliable robotics software in C++ and Python with attention to real-time performance.
  • Design and integrate sensor-data pipelines for cameras, LiDAR, IMUs, and proprioceptive sensors.
  • Implement perception, localization, mapping, SLAM, and sensor-fusion capabilities for robust state estimation.
  • Develop motion-planning, control, and trajectory-generation algorithms that account for kinematic and dynamic constraints and support safe, predictable robot behavior.
  • Build behavioral systems using state machines, behavior trees, or task planners.
  • Integrate ROS or ROS 2 with custom hardware and embedded systems.
  • Implement safety-critical patterns, including watchdogs, fault detection, and safe stops.
  • Build simulation environments using Gazebo or Isaac Sim for development and testing.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and ML engineers to gather requirements, align on technical approaches, and deliver solutions that meet functional and engineering standards.
  • Design and conduct field tests, including data collection and post-test analysis.
  • Maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, design decisions, configuration references, runbooks, and operational procedures.
  • Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, design reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing.
  • Evaluate emerging robotics technologies and frameworks and make recommendations about adoption, pilots, or deferral.
