Robotics Integration Engineer (TL)

Applied IntuitionSunnyvale, CA

About The Position

The Industrials team at Applied Intuition automates and adds intelligence to heavy machinery across construction, mining, and agriculture. As a Senior Robotics & Integration Engineer, you will own the software and hardware platform that our intelligent autonomy stack runs on — everything from networking, time synchronization, sensors and drivers, and middleware, down to embedded systems, drive-by-wire, and low-level controls actuation. This role sits at the intersection of hardware, software, and robotics, blending 0→1 development with production systems and direct product and customer-facing work. You will partner with core teams across the company — such as electrical, middleware, firmware, and hardware, etc. — and bring their work together, adapting it into products that enable customer success. As a tech lead, you will coordinate and prioritize the work of multiple engineers on the team as well as cross-functional efforts with internal teams.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in robotics, systems integration, or platform software development, with demonstrated technical leadership or tech lead experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related area
  • Deep, hands-on experience across the robotics platform stack: sensors and drivers, networking and time synchronization, middleware (e.g., ROS 2, DDS, or proprietary frameworks), and embedded systems
  • Strong development experience in C/C++ on Linux, including debugging and testing complex real-time systems
  • Experience with vehicle actuation and low-level controls, such as drive-by-wire systems and controller integration
  • Strong understanding of electronic systems and how to set up, instrument, and debug them
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize across multiple engineers and cross-functional teams to deliver on customer commitments

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with heavy machinery, off-road vehicles, agriculture, mining, or construction equipment
  • Experience with automotive and industrial communication technologies, including CAN, J1939, LIN, Ethernet/TSN, PTP/gPTP, AUTOSAR, etc.
  • Experience taking robotic systems from prototype to production, including safety considerations, release processes, and CI/CD for embedded targets
  • Experience interacting directly with customers to scope, deliver, and support projects that meet their requirements
  • Firmware development experience or familiarity with microcontroller-based systems
  • Skills in adjacent areas (electrical/harness design, CAD/3D printing, PCB design, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Own the vehicle platform end-to-end: networking, time synchronization, sensor selection and drivers, middleware integration, embedded software, drive-by-wire, and low-level controls actuation
  • Architect and deliver full-system platform capabilities spanning hardware and software, taking them from 0→1 prototypes through to reliable production systems deployed on heavy machinery
  • Integrate the cross-functional work of internal teams into cohesive, product-ready platforms adapted to customer machines and use cases
  • Interact directly with customers to identify target use cases, define platform requirements, and drive integrations through to successful deployment in the field
  • Lead and coordinate a team of engineers: set technical direction, prioritize across competing workstreams, and manage cross-functional dependencies with internal teams
  • Design and bring up test rigs and validation infrastructure for end-to-end system testing, hardware-in-the-loop verification, and on-vehicle validation
  • Debug, test, and troubleshoot complex interactions across the full stack — from sensor timing and network behavior to actuation and controls — to ensure reliability and system performance in harsh, real-world environments

Benefits

  • Applied Intuition is an equal opportunity employer and federal contractor or subcontractor.
  • Reasonable accommodations are available for applicants who are disabled veterans and other applicants with disabilities or medical conditions.
