Robotics Engineer

Neuralink•Austin, TX

About The Position

Neuralink is creating devices that enable a bi-directional interface with the brain. These devices aim to restore movement to the paralyzed, sight to the blind, and revolutionize human interaction with the digital world. The role involves working on Neuralink’s next-generation surgical robot, which will perform brain surgery at scale by installing hundreds of tiny threads into the brain for brain-computer communication. The engineer will be responsible for building out the robot test fleet, breaking robots into testable components, building rigs that reproduce operating conditions, performing surgeries on brain proxies, and automating accelerated life testing (ALT). The test fleet provides the evidence needed to ship new capabilities regularly and safely. When the robot malfunctions, the engineer will be tasked with diagnosing and resolving the issues in the lab.

Requirements

  • Hands-on robotics experience; experience making a robot work, breaking it, and fixing it.
  • Proficiency in Python for automating tests and analyzing results.
  • Basic understanding of Rust.
  • Hands-on experience with motor drives, encoders, sensors, and hardware interfaces such as Ethernet, SPI, I²C, UART, or EtherCAT.
  • Ability to read schematics, build instrumented fixtures, and use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and data acquisition systems to diagnose failures.
  • High agency on hardware, comfortable with noise, intermittent faults, and failures that resist reproduction.
  • Discipline regarding repeatability, traceability, and recording actual events.
  • Judgment to determine when a robot is ready and the diligence to provide supporting evidence.
  • Effective use of AI agents to build tooling, analyze data, and automate failure investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Bring up, instrument, and run robots and component test rigs.
  • Hunt failures across mechanics, electronics, firmware, and software.
  • Automate routine robot V&V, test setup, execution, recovery, and results.
  • Design and build fixtures, sensing, and logging, with safe operating procedures and fast turnaround.
  • Work with Sim and HIL engineers to make the models and tests match reality.
  • Turn real failures into repeatable regression tests so we stop burning hardware time on known bugs.
  • Chase failures that happen infrequently and build systems that run the same way every time.

Benefits

  • Growth potential; rapid advancement for team members with outsized impact
  • Excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance through a PPO plan
  • Paid holidays
