About The Position

The Toro Company is seeking a Robotics Engineer to join their team. This role will be responsible for major autonomous features and robotic subsystems, including localization, planning, and control. The engineer will independently plan and conduct verification and validation activities, perform root-cause analysis, and mentor junior engineers. Collaboration with Perception, Embedded, and Safety teams is essential to deliver robust robotic systems designed for reliable field performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, robotics, computer science, or a related technical field required.
  • Robotics Engineer II: 2-4 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Robotics Engineer III: 4-7 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Robotics Engineer IV: 7-10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Robotics Engineer V: 10-12+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience with SLAM, including 2D/3D mapping, LiDAR, vision, loop closure, and map optimization.
  • Experience developing multisensor fusion solutions using EKF, UKF, or factor graph methods.
  • Knowledge of advanced planning and control methods, including MPC, LQR, trajectory tracking, and model identification.
  • Experience conducting failure-mode analysis and applying safety concepts to autonomous systems.
  • Experience with embedded computing platforms, including NVIDIA and ARM architectures.
  • Understanding of real-time system performance and experimental design.
  • Ability to define and evaluate performance metrics related to accuracy, latency, and reliability.
  • Experience with code reviews, technical standards, and supplier or partner collaboration.
  • Works independently within established procedures.
  • Resolves a broad range of technical issues.
  • Demonstrates ownership of complex systems and technical outcomes.
  • Collaborates effectively across Perception, Embedded, Safety, and other engineering teams.
  • Provides technical coaching and mentorship to junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Own and advance major autonomy features and robotic subsystems, including localization, planning, and control pipelines.
  • Develop and optimize SLAM solutions using 2D/3D data, LiDAR, and vision technologies, including loop closure and map optimization.
  • Design robust multisensor fusion systems using techniques such as EKF, UKF, and factor graphs.
  • Develop advanced planning and control capabilities, including model predictive control, linear quadratic regulation, trajectory tracking, and model identification.
  • Plan and execute experiments and verification activities, establishing key performance indicators for accuracy, latency, reliability, and real-time performance.
  • Conduct failure-mode and root-cause analyses while incorporating safety concepts for autonomous operation.
  • Support system integration and bring-up on embedded computing platforms, including NVIDIA and ARM architectures.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and external partners and contribute to code reviews and engineering standards.
  • Coach and mentor Level I and Level II engineers.
